I'm curious as to what some of you think about the stuff that's commonly posted in the EE?

Having looking through that forum, I'm finding strikingly like e-bay. I say that as I'm seeing posts where the items are oftentimes either priced the same or amazingly enough, higher, than new from a vendor/store/shop.

Thanks for the responses guys. Guess I'm not imagining the hype (of the EE) after all!

You aren't kidding about the value of knowing the market, sort to speak. I was looking at a fairly generic Larue QD mount that was being listed for $115 (on the EE). A quick check at Larue's website showed the same item is $119....new. Great savings eh?

I like the EE and have found some great deals. There are also some serious crack smokers. I much prefer it to ebay though.

Yep,

Lots of sellers looking for suckers newbies who believe everything on the EE is a bargain.

I've gotten a few good (not great) deals, and wasted a lot of money on trash.   IME, if the seller doesn't give a detailed description of the item's condition, I automatically assume it has problems.   I've gotten a seriously rusted barrel, a barrel with TWO open gas ports, a barrel with amateur welding on it, broken/counterfeit accessories, and airsoft crap labeled as the real thing.   None of these defects were revealed by the sellers.

I would compare it, generally, to a lot of gun shows.  A lot of crap for ho-hum prices.  But, if you are patient and know your market there are deals to be had.

After my experiences there I will only buy in person.  I would sell through the mail though, and offer the buyer a money back guarantee if they return the item in as shipped condition.

A rule I use for on-line buying is to check list price with your favorite store first,i.e. Wall world or some other discount outlet, then plan to spend no more than 60% of that price. It has worked well for me to date.
