Well Phillip at Innovative Arms used to do my engraving but now he has stopped that service as he is currently pumping out as many silencers as he can before the ATF rules change.

What other local places do you guys trust to engrave your stuff? I really don't want to ship this stuff out. Would just rather go by a place and have them do it quickly.

Thanks!

If you don't want to ship it, Tar Heel State Firearms is just across the border into NC and does fantastic work. Personally, I'd just ship it to him.

They usually have a 24-hour turnaround, or wil do it while you wait with an appointment.

Are you planning to sell it?
Useful article here on why most people turning their current 16"+ AR into an SBR don't need to engrave unless they're planning to sell the rifle.

That article is a load of crap, as is most stuff Nick posts. Follow his advice and you're breaking a very clearly defined law. A Maker is required to engrave the firearm, regardless of whether they plan to sell it or not.

Or...if it's worth the potential $10,000 fine and 10 year sentence to save the time and expense of engraving, go ahead and follow his advice.

From another source that's often unreliable.

The article came up in this discussion, and there's a link in there to this one which discusses the TTAG article.

I've always done mine in person...because they let me push the Start button.

The feedback I've heard from a lot of people is they'll maybe call you, get it lined up on the laser and send you a pic before they hit the button. Not sure if that just for non-standard stuff or not. Tell Teri that Greg said "hey". (I do work the gun shows for Scott & Teri, but otherwise am not an employee). And you may have them back Mon/Tue.

I'd like to see the 870 when you get it done. I have two pending for my first two SBSs, and one is due any day based on approvals I've seen posted.

He told me to put a piece of tape on the spot that I want engraved on the 870. I put the tape on the angled part in between the serial number and trigger.

The parts are scheduled to arrive tomorrow at his house. It's nice being so close that UPS ground is just like overnighting the package.

He shipped it out yesterday. Its scheduled to arrive tomorrow. That's less than a 1 week turnaround time.

Ugghhh..... Getting nervous. No movement on the package since 3/14. It's supposed to be delivered today but still shows that it's in Charlotte, NC. I hate shipping valuable stuff.

Well it finally showed up in Columbia so I guess that means it will be delivered tomorrow. USPS, where 2 day priority actually means 3, 4, or 5 days. Crap. These 2 cities are only 85 miles apart!

Well?

I've never been this anxious for something that isn't mine.

I even texted Scott last night for pics of the 870 to give me an idea, but he said I need to text Teri and I just haven't taken the time.
