I'm just fortunate enough to land a job back in Ohio. After living the almost last 10 years of my life in NE Ohio, I started college in Michigan, got a job within 30 minutes of my home in Ohio, then my parents moved out of Ohio and my job moved to Michigan. I continued with the job because I liked the job, then I realized how much more I enjoyed living in Ohio... in the more important aspects of life (gun laws & friends). I took a job in the Canton area. It's not in my ideal location, but it'll work. I'm a college student at a Michigan college. I go to school for three months and then work for three months, and I rotate back and forth. I will be around Canton half of the year, and at school in Flint the other half of the year. As much as I love the Michigan ARFcom crew, the Ohio group (especially the southen Ohio guys) are fantastic, the NE Ohio guys never seemed to plan much. Whether the shoot was at Miller's or The Pit in Lapeer, Michigan, the ARFcom guys are great regardless of location, but I'm just happy to get back to Ohio. I can't wait to make future ARFcom shoots. Though, I still have to find housing in the Canton area before I can start work... if anyone knows of a place that will accept short-term rentals. |

As far as shooting check out Greenport Tactical and Ashland Lake Gun Club Both have great tactical programs and matches. |

Welcome to the area! Where are you looking? Perry Township, Jackson Township, and some of Plain Township are nice. If you want country living, Lexington Township, Marlboro Township, some of Canton Township and some of the areas south of the city are nicer like Canton South and East Canton. There are tons of houses for sale around here, and now that schools out at the colleges, there are rentals. If you have a family, consider the school districts. Unless you can afford private school, you may want to stay away from the City of Canton itself(don't live there either) Deville appartments and condos Canton Repository Real Estate |
My school situation is that I go to school for three months here and work three months in Canton, school three months, work three months and so on... I have to find a place that'll do three month leases for cheap in or around Canton. I'll check into those places, see how close they are, rent and if they'll do a short-term lease. Thanks. |
Well... prove me wrong, but in over a year in Ohio as an ARFcom member, the only event I attended was Miller's... and it kicked ass. It was worth the 5 hour drive then, considering I drove a Saturn and I stopped at AIM Surplus, but now driving a Cadillac with gas twice as much money and a third less fuel economy, I'd definitely have to carpool that. |
| Our group is in the NW about 2 hour's away, check out BSC for more information. There are a few guys that come up from Columbus about the same distance away. It's a good time and you learn a lot, we don't just stand/sit there and shoot at bulls-eyes it's tactical so you learn to move with your rifle. Also check out the BSCG Forum if you like. Our next shoot is July 1st. |

Mitch, Try the local rag, the Canton Repository on-line for short term rentals. I work at Belden Village, Canton. My best bet for you is to call local realtors for short term rentals. e-mail me your mailing address and I'll mail you a local Yellow Pages and Repository. woody |
Someone from Canton is already sending me a newspaper, but thanks for the offer. |

I was going to rent, but I think my dad and I are going to go down this weekend and look at houses. I can't believe the number of houses for under $30,000. Flint is definitely cheap, but most of these Canton houses look halfway decent. I could live in a shitbox I own for $300 a month on a 10 year mortgage or $550 for an apartment. Not much of a decision. |
