This is a great 6 round drill devised by Todd Louis Green of Pistol-Training.com.
It can be found here and described in its entirety. It is a test of fundamentals, accuracy, and speed hence the acronym FAS Test. Give this a try next time you are at the range and post your results here. You can print the official target off at the link if you have access to a printer that prints 8.5x14 legal paper. I gave this drill about 8 good runs yesterday drawing from concealment of my TAD Gear jacket. 2 of them did not count because I missed a head shot on each of them. Its a fun drill that is measurable for improvement. And its only 6 rounds with one simple and easy to setup target. |
Tod, I think you are supposed to be a "certified firearms trainer" on this site to give out training drills. I can't seriously consider trying this drill since you don't have the appropriate "gray gun" instructor symbol next to your moniker. Sorry.
Seriously, thanks for sharing. Looks like a good drill and I'll try it this week for sure. Keep 'em coming. I haven't put new drills in my notebook for sometime now. Mark |

Went and ran this yesterday while getting a feel for the new Gen4 G17.
Without a cover garment I ran mid to high 3's drawing from a Comp-Tac belt holster on my Maxpedition Liger belt. Drawing from concealment of my 5.11 vest I got high 3's to low 4's. My best was a 3.78. Worst was a 4.65. The slow ones usually hinged on a less than perfect draw or a botched reload. I ran the drill probably 15 or more times. I shot all of them clean but 2. The two that I missed I missed both the head shots. These were some of the best runs I have had on this drill. I think alot of it was in part to the slimmer grip and new magazine release design of the Gen 4. I was able to reload without any shift of my grip. The new texture was also helpful in maintaining a strong non slip grip to help a solid follow through on every shot. I'm really digging the new Gen 4 Glock. Anybody else had a chance to run this drill recently? |

Anybody else had a chance to run this drill recently? We did it today at Mike's match. Was the very first opportunity I had to make a certain new pistol go bang 6 and change on my second run (i'll post actual when Mikes sends our scores out), don't really want to discuss the first one. I need work

The pistol went bang the way it was supposed to right? |

The pistol went bang the way it was supposed to right? Oh buddy did it ever! I guess I was sweating being the first time out with it or something, but on the very first run it went to slidelock, I was standing there with a mag in hand about an inch from the magwell ready to jam it home and realized I was staring at a floor plate and not an empty hole. I guess I thought it had a magic mag release that you didn't have to actually push

Well....glad to hear it was you and not the gun. I'm gonna have to get you to one dem IPSC matches pretty soon. USPSA match and not an IPSC. They are one in the same. IPSC is the international organization....USPSA is the US organization. ehhh goes to show what I know. But I do need a qualifier ..... I did join USPSA the other day so Im official now. |

You need 4 classifiers for your initial classification. Then its your best 6 of your most recent 8. |
| I haven't had a chance to time myself doing it, but I've tried it a few times from the low ready (my range won't let me draw on the line). It seems like it's a great little drill and a very comprehensive assesment of your skill. I'm sure I'll be shooting in a lot in the future! |

After seeing this drill posted by Todd, I immediately thought that it relates statistically to most LE shootings in range/distance and number of rounds fired. Luckily, I also saw / read this post right before being assigned to run my Dept's annual qual range this year. I decided to tailor an LE variation for our training "warm up" before shooting the 30rd GDAC. Im limited to about 100rds total per officer and this drill, with some some old school NRA slow fire/bulleye at 15 and 25yd drills has gotten us some good results. Ive got half, or more of my marginal-80's shooters in the 90's. Ive gotten some low 90's shooters in the upper 90's now. Ive put three shifts/teams through a slightly modified version of the Fasttest thus far and Im anticipating an overall higher average by the time Im done with the whole Dept.
Instead of two chest, reload, four head; I simply changed it to four chest (again, based on past LE shooting statistical data), reload, two head (failure drill). We run G22/G23 gunbelt/ level two security wearing holster, no concealment/shirt or jacket, two times annually shooting metro area popo's. times are.....never mind on times, but its a good drill that incorporates fast draw, marksmanship and reload and as previously stated, and appears represent most LE type shooting confrontations as well. thanks again 00bullit |
I guess I need my caffeine this morning.
