I imagine FFL fees range from store to store but I almost crapped my pants when my local gun store guy told me it was $135+tax.  Is this par for the course in SoCal?  I live in Hollywood, by the way.

I remember two places when I was looking (which no longer do transfers) that told me they use to charge $150 for their FFL transfers!
Another gun shop, which was also a range that I had an annual membership with, ended up doing it for $50... and even then it was only because I was able to talk them down from their normal price (since I regularly do business with them).

If I remember right, there was a pawn shop I stopped at in San Diego that would do it for $35... it didn't really seem like a pawn shop I wanted to handle my firearm related business through though.

Ya, that's about right.  If you look around you can probably find it cheaper, I foudn one to do it for about $75.

Fort Courage is in Simi Valley. They're maybe a 35-40 minute drive north of you just west of the SFV. And Tim is a good guy. Here's a link to his "fees" page:  Fort Courage Armory

The web Site is very straightforward and explains a lot.

where in SoCal are you? edit: nevermind, I see you stated Hollywood.

There are places that charge around $25 transfer fee + the $25DROS fee, $50 total, and many others that are less than $75 total.

There are a bunch of stores inOC. Their transfer fees are more reasonable.

Btw, avoid Martin Rettings if you can, they don't support EBRs
