I have come to the conclusion that several on this forum truly want to be trolls or computer commandos. I am tired of what used to be a good forum that has turned into a bunch of total bullshit by the most important people they know. If the majority of you would get over yourselves and realize the world does not revolve around you this forum and the world would be a much better place.

With this being said, I am cancelling my account. I have met many good people on here and have obtained some really good knowledge from the few of you who post intelligent things (Todd, Mark, Marv and several others). For the few of you I call friends I look forward to catching up with you guys from time to time. For the rest of you take care, and take life one day at a time. OUT!!!

sorry to see another good member go.....and a local po-po.  never good to let the good ones go.

I'm sorry as well, though I don't know you. I hate to see people with intelligent, productive opinions that are founded in experience driven off by the stupidity of teh internetz. Seems like this isn't the first time in the HTF either...

To anyone else thinking of leaving, just know that there are people here who appreciate what you have to say, and recognize that you know what you are talking about when you do.

I reach the same point eventually in every online forum I have ever been a member of.  Eventually, the same old crap wears you down, and you find greener pastures.  I think it's a natural internet process.  Take it easy - I'm almost at the same point as you.  Let us know if you find a good place that's not overrun with the tards.

Oh, and this is not a slap or anything, but I don't think you can cancel an account.  People have asked before and were told no.  You could always go trash an EE ad and get banned.  LOL

If you leave you let the idiots win!

That is one of the main reasons I stay.  I still enjoy the occasional GOOD thread in the HTF.  I've met enough good people on here I'm not quite ready to give the entire mess up just yet.

If you feel it is best for you to bail, I won't fault you for it.  And I'll miss you around here.

I do hope you'll reconsider though.

I still hang around, when my membership runs out I probably won't re-up.  Anything that comes up about LEOs I just don't bother to post. We're all power hungry JBTs according to a growing number of people around here.

Some yes. Here's the thing, when you guys stop someone on the streets, it's not a good idea for us to argue with you or give our opinion about anything. On the streets or on the side of the road, it's your show. In here, we can have an opinion without a cop being able to fuck up our lives, simply because he can. Some cops don't like that, folks being able to have a different opinion than theirs. You guys are taught to take control of a situation and never let go of that control. It works out fine for you on the street but not so much in here.

Anyway, I hate to see either of you go. I do like to argue though.

I pretty much never notice much of any BS here in the GAHTF.  I only click on threads that interest me and ignore the rest.  Yes,  sometimes I encounter BS in my reading,  but I tend to get more benefit out of this place than pain from the garbage.   Just like in the real world.  The firing range is one of my absolute favorite places to be,  but even there we have to deal with BS from time to time.

Just because I throw out a quip that 90%of cops give the good 10% a bad name, you have to throw in the towel? IT WAS A JOKE, we all know that the figures are closer to 50-50. I don't know if the ignore feature is available to non members but it certainly helps to keep down on the BS and trolls. This forum isnt GD but its still a place for some of us to come and unwind and to discuss one particular hobby we are all interested in. Some of us joke a little more than others and others take it to far. Now if you will excuse me I need to get back to my Octoberfest and Foxnews, lets all hope for Yes on Prop 19, and No to Reid, and relish in the fact that we are all free from the Pelosi hag.

Bing bing!  Winner!  I've been po'ed at people on web forum's before, but once I figured out that the internet isn't real life, it's not been much of a problem.  If it bugs you, pass on.  If someone's a jerk, press the ignore button.  Whether 10% or 90% of people are trolls/jerks/whatever, they are wherever you go, in your family, at work, etc.  Gotta learn to deal with it.

two other points about law enforcement...you really do need a thick skin to do that job...many municipalities/counties have turned their police forces in to tax collectors which doesn't garner a lot of respect from the populace.

good post, ARFCOM as a whole has changed a lot over the last several years along with the caliber of members we attract now. video gamers, air softers, and teenage/college aged kids have been joining at a high rate causing the gene pool to get VERY shallow. it's very evident in the GD and you can see it here from time to time. also being critial of certain people, religions etc........has gotten several long term members ban hammered. it's become PC, i think Bookhound does a fair job here but it's noy our site and it's there rules. i can't tell you guys how many times i edit my post and have my wife read them, so i don't offend the then skinned socialist that have come here in droves. in life people need thick skin, because life isn't fair. just some thoughts, if you don't like threads about a pizza get together, don't click on the thread, the HTF is an awesome place and there are a mix of personalities, people will have opposing veiws.

This is not intended as criticism of Book, but our HTF has been getting more like GD over the years. I believe it is an erosion of common decency and manners combined with a small number of vocal posters who should be in GD, but like the attention and captive audience afforded by the HTF.

I strongly agree.  I've fought the "cancers" best I could within guidelines of the site rules.  Unfortunately there are no rules against stupidity or "GD-esque" posting in the HTF areas.  Now, I could be an overbearing moderator but that isn't right either.  I can't impose my vision of this site on the masses.  I can't just randomly censor things.  But, if the site continues to evolve into another childish GD romper room, well, we'll continue to see the more educated, knowledgeable, professional people leave.  Those are the types who understand arguing with an idiot is pointless and a waste of time.  Thus, they simply move on to the next site.

Well, I sorta like this forum. I haven't been home in months, but because of this site I am still be able to hear from Treedawg, Dwinecof and some of the other Central Georgia crowd.

I agree. The erosion of common decency and manners is a large part of what I see and have difficulty accepting (and it's not just this forum, it's common in far too many places). Common decency and manners usually include refraining from using inappropriate language as well as making people feel bad about asking a question they would like an answer to. I also have been giving thought to not renewing my membership. I am not saying that I plan to not renew but I am giving it serious consideration.
Far be it from me to tell the Powers to Be at ARFCOM how to run the site, but I think perhaps some rules about posting should be considered. Keeping a Civil tongue and showing respect to everyone should required, period.

To me, a smart remark here and there thrown in makes things interesting. I can completely understand the need to stop some of the dis-respect and straight up insults aren't useful to anyone, but If I open myself up and someone makes a joke about it, I still understand It is a joke. Kinda like if I happen to mention drinking a Bud-light while at the Augusta HTF meet, If someone doesn't make a Frat Boy Beer joke it just wouldn't be the same around here.

I wasn't going to chime in here, and just leave this to Book, but this caught my attention. I would expect some changes as far as this HTF are concerned, to be coming down the pike.

I think there may have been some confusion on how the HTFs are dealt with in regards to the rules, but I believe it has been straightened out.

I'm sure Book will fill everyone in once he is ready.

10-4 on that. I have learned to ignore it.  I can admit when a cop has done wrong, and I am even embarassed by it.  What I don't like is the bumping of chests and high-fiving when they make it into a, "Yeah! We got one over on them!  Look how stupid we made him look!  Look how vindicated we are!  Woohoo HIGH FIVE!!!  Now we will let everybody we can know by posting the video on the internet to show off how we got him in trouble! HIGH FIVE!!!"

Yep, I've been officially told the HTFs are like Tech forums in that the CoC is strictly enforced. The normal antics from GD are not acceptable in most HTFs.  As moderator here I can decide whether to allow GD-type topics in the HTF.  I don't have to put up with the GD BS in the HTF.

In the past I've gotten some different direction from the staff member who was overseeing the HTFs.  Admittedly that was quite some time ago.  I've never really wanted to "over moderate" or censor the HTF posts and generally let a LOT of stuff slide.  Things would have to get pretty bad before I jumped in to smack hands or otherwise intervene.  But maybe it is time for that to change.

I know there is no set of rules that will please everyone.  But I think it is past time for me to lay down a more specific set of rules for this HTF.  I'll work on this in the VERY near future.

I'm all for civility, but where is the line?

I think what FCS took exception to was mis-stated by the poster and if it wasn't, it was a laughable assertion that 90% of cops are bad. Maybe FCS had a shitty day, but if he seriously took offense to that statement I don't know what to say.

Maybe we should ban DRAMA from HTF.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. I'm like some of the others and hold thoughts of checking out for good. The asshattery and shenanigans of the feeble minded can only be tolerated for so long.

While strict rules are good for stopping the matters at hand, it's the mentality that it's all good to begin with that is driving the good guys away.  Yes, this may be the Internet, but if all you interact with someone before meeting them is child-like and retarded, what does that lead someone to believe the person will be like on a range or when trying to give advice (which were some of the reasons the HTF exists).

It's absurd when a forum of adults that are interested in firearms requires babysitters outside of the main nuthouse/kids play room (aka GD).  There have been many a good thread that gets started but totally trashed with hijacks and derails.

To those that say ignore it, it's becoming harder and harder to do so as the shit spreads.  I leave my final remark as this..

Stupid shit isn't funny or cool, it's just shit.
