I'm in Houston... and just learned we supposedly have a few fallout shelters in the city. I would really enjoy seeing the inside of one of these... Does anyone know where they are located? Are people allowed to look inside? Do they still have the old stuff in them, or are they converted to storage? |

Need to Know ONLY!!
as in If you don't KNOW, then the answer is NO! I really was pleased to learn & appreciate the expert planning of the appropriate Male to Female Ratio ( 1 - 10 ), and the fact that the women are selected for their sexually stimulating nature to help reproduce and repopulate America. BIGGER_HAMMER

.... Are you suggesting these are still active? Stocked with supplies that are serviceable? I figured they had either been converted to storage, or were collecting dust. It doesn't seem to be a big secret as to where they are located... I have 2 locations identified already... Just trying to know if there is anything left to see. |

Most fall out shelters are OLD stock (don't think anything new has be purchased since the mid 70's) and that wouldn't be worth much (to see or to steal either!).
Nothing more yummy that stale 60's survival biscuts! The problem is that unless you lock the doors, any "Good Stuff" would be looted well before it was needed (Geiger Counters, Medical Equipement (in the 60's druggies used to raid Civil Defense medical kits for tranquilizers and downers) and such. However in an emergency, what happens when no one can find the keys or the person in charge is MIA??? BIGGER_HAMMER
If you wanted to see a shelter, try asking at the major buildings (H.P.D., Court House, etc...) |

A friend and I bought some camera equipment last year... and this seems like the perfect topic for a documentary we have been wanting to do... Have you seen the insides of one? Are the food canisters and such still intact? |

Quoted: The Meyerland neighborhood was built in the fallout shelter era. Most have since been buried or turned into wine cellars. Buried? Like, they just filled in the entrance, leaving a hollow area? Or, they filled it in completely, or collapsed it and put in fill? How do you bury an underground structure? Isn't it already buried? |

There is a king sized shelter a bit North of Houston, complete with MG towers and pagodas. Yeah I remember reading an article on it a couple years ago. It got turned into a secure colocation center. IIRC this is the building. |
