Disneyland has changed the seating and viewing arrangements for the Fantasmic shows.  There is only one small "good" location for first-come first served walk up viwing.  All of the rest of the good, better and best viewing locations now require getting a Fast Pass (which doesn't count against other Fast Passes.) which assigns a location block and arrival time.  Plus there are several Fantasmic Dining Packages at some of the restaurants.  So, it has changed to more or less what they do for "World of Color" shows in California Adventure.

The viewing areas will not be available until just one hour before the shows and will be cleared out after each show.  There have been crowd control and access issues around the shows for years, but apparently the straw was they caught APs spreading out stuff very early in the day and then selling their "Saved for my family" seats.

Paul- Maybe Annual Passholders?

Glad you posted this up Danby, I was going to head to Disneyland with some friends on Monday the 22nd of Dec. Is there anything funky scheduled for that particular day? Also, is there anywhere I can get a great deal on single park 1 day tickets for my wife and I? Our Annuals expired and we don't really go enough to justify it anymore. Thanks for the helpful info you have posted over the years

Should be a regular very crowded holiday season day.  The best bet might be to get your tickets at a regular retail outlet that has deals, Costco, Sam's Club, two advantages, one you get it below retail and you know it's a valid ticket.  Getting them via some other unofficial means was knocked off the radar because some of the good deals were abusing multi-day tickets, marginally "legal", and a lot were bogus tickets.

Plus if it gets too crowded, those tickets are still valid if the box offices close to "new" sales.

The light shows on the Castle and Small World are worth seeing, check for single rider lines for those rides that offer them.  I literally walked on to the Matterhorn the other night at 7:45.  Single rider lines are also available on Indiana Jones, Radiator Springs Racers, Soaring. and a few others.

We had a great spot for Fantasmic one time, right next to the water. You could feel the heat of the dragon's breath!

The kids liked Small World but I'll pass. I went through it one time and I thought I was going to die. I couldn't get that tune out of my head for months.

Good.  Something needed to be done.  That area just gets too fucked up with all the 'campers'.
