I've been using Magnum boots for years now. (I've used Browning, Danner, Red Head, and Wolverines as well in the past). My current pair is a Magnum side zip 8" pair. They are great boots but they seem to squeak from picking up moisture (from being in the snow).
Anybody here had Converse boots?
I'm wondering about their waterproof and insulated 8" pairs. I'll probably get a side zip if they are available but it's not a priority.
Any suggestions or opinions about Converse boots?

I have two pairs of converse boots. As a matter of fact, I wore the black ones when we were at the gunshow last weekend. I've been wearing them pretty much since tuesday due to all the snow. I think that they are the desert runners. Definately the lightest, and probably the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. If it matters, they are made in China

Before buying these, I mainly wore either Army Jungle boots or Danners.

Mine are full lace up. I will never own any boots with a zipper in them.

When you have knee tendon problems, you'll appreciate  a side zipper on the boot. I still have Wolverine Wellington Durashocks - great boots - but they are darn hard for me to pull on with the knee replacements.
I've thought about having zippers put on those because they are really comfortable to wear.

I wear 5.11 side zip boots every day. I have a tan pair and a black pair that I got cheap from LA Police Gear a couple of years ago. They are as good if not better than some of the old Hi-Tec Magnums.

Hi-Tec magnums Had a guy wear a pair of those out to the field once. They basically just fell apart. Kinda funny actually, except when I had to get his dumbass another pair of boots to last out to the end of the exercise. You couldn't give me a pair of those. YMMV.

The zipper thing is just a carryover from my service time.

FWIW While I really like my converse boots, I don't think that they'd hold up to some really heavy use, like humping a ruck, or anything like that.

I'm going to try the Converse boots Chuck.
I agree that many shoes and boots will come apart nowadays. It happens from heat and the glue coming loose.
I wear New Balance shoes that are listed as "cross trainers" and I've had them come loose in the past.
But Shoe-Goo usually fixes them for a while.
I started wearing New Balance when I was running with my pit on a track 25 years ago and they've been good shoes
I've got some Lucchese Wellingtons with neoprene soles that i don't think would come apart but they are dress boots. By far the most expensive boots I've ever had.
I don't like leather soles on shoes or boots because of working on wires. You try to avoid them being hot but mistakes happen and leather soles will get your ass zapped.
The Wolverine Durashocks have worked out well in the past for riding ATVs and hiking trails up in New Mexico. Worn well and held up well as work boots even.
But that squeaking of the Magnums from the snow almost got me whacked upside the head by my irritable wife when we went to Chili's the other night.
The squeaking really got on her nerves.
She's getting back into shape and is talking about going back into mud wrestling.
She used to whip up on me when we first got married when she was the Mud Wrestling Champion of the Southwest United States. I'm too old, scarred and fragile to have her start whipping up on me again so the Magnums are going bye-bye.

I wore a pair of hi techs on a three day outing once because the old pair of carolinas I had on blew out right when we were leaving, my bro had worn them several times so I figured they'd be broken in pretty decent; they weren't, thought I was crippled after the second day, if we weren't in heavy brush/brambles I'd of went bare foot before putting them on again.

my bro thought it pretty fucking funny though; after he got them back he said they were the most comfortable pair of hi techs he'd ever owned.

I don't like them at all, the GI jungle boot is more comfortable then the hi techs.

I've worn double h, redwings, doc martins, carolinas, danners and a few other "cheaper" made brands, but since 95' I been wearing wolverine durashocks, got a pair of discontinued goretex wolves I been wearing since 04' and they're the most comforable lace up boot I've ever worn, wished I'd of bought three pair of them back then because I can't find current model as comfortable.

good durable boots are one of the things I don't mind shelling out the bucks for.

Big +1 on the New Balance being good shoes.  When I was young that was all dad would buy for me because I always tore shoes up and got them dirtier than the mud I was stomping through and New Balance lasted almost twice as long as any others he bought for me.  I still use them for sneakers/running shoes.

My son is on his feet all day running his Sonic. He wears Wolverine Durashocks when he works. I got him a pair when he was 17 for riding our ATVs in New Mexico and Colorado.
He's had a pair every since.
I still put mine on every once is a great while but it's hell pulling them on with a swollen tendon on the knee.
I damn sure like a side zipper on a boot because of that tendon.

I have a pair of cabelas 10" gortex upland game boots.  Keep my feet dry and warm, but sqeeeeeeek.  Not worth a crap when trying to sneak up on something.  I have a pari of Danner 8" gortex, zipper side, don't squeek and are the hardest boots to break in I have ever had.  I have and will continue to wear the wolverine durashock 6" on  duty.  The Wolverines are the most comfortable boots I have ever had, but they don't keep out the dirt and stickers when out in the ruff.  Jmho.
