I know there's a thread for posting what's available, but it's dying out a little bit. I'm just wondering if anybody has had any luck finding 5.56 or .223 in the Madison area? Are the local gun stores or Dick's selling any? If so, are prices high or normal? Does farm & fleet ever have stock? I think I've noticed the walmarts seem to get ammo on Sunday nights, although I haven't figured out the ideal time to try to catch some for myself. I'm just getting frustrated, and I don't have a lot of time to check into stores between grad school and work. Any input or conversation on the topic would be appreciated!

Follow the thread in the ammo forum; I snagged 5k from Cabelas in the past 2 days at about $410/1k for Brass and $300/1k for steel.

I wander into walmarts about 8-9 am, and have been having decent luck finding 223 and 9mm.  Mondays/Tuesdays seem to be the best days.

Yeah, based on what somebody posted in the giant walmart thread on a Sunday night, my not noticing until Monday morning, and subsequent attempt and near-success Monday morning, it seems to come in to walmart Sunday night and not get put out until Monday morning. So, I will be prowling around Sunday night. I was hoping somebody here had some insight on when Farm & Fleet got deliveries though?

Also, thanks for the advice on the big thread - I'd been following the walmart one by pure happenstance but didn't know there was another. Looks like a lot of people just made a big score a few days ago from Cabelas.com, which I've been periodically checking. Periodically has just become "fanatically" with that news.

Thanks for the link. Scored 2100 rounds of federal with an ammo can for 99.95.

Just FYI, IIRC, they can't/won't sell ammo after 9:00pm, the registers/computer won't allow it. (On the theory someone buying ammo after 9:00 will be more likely to go out and rob a liqour store or something... ) I don't know when in the morning sales start again.

If I'm wrong, let me know.

This has not been the case for me at Walmart.

This is correct, it varies from store to store.

Scheels in Appleton had probably 15,000 rounds of .223

Scheels was down to just over 1K of U-max last night at $.50/rd.  The sign says no more than 200 rounds per person/family/group together.  As I was staring at it debating on getting some, one guy walked up and cleared the shelf and then went to get his wife.  I just sat back and watched as I looked at the rest of the ammo.  The manager saw him walking around with his basket full and told him that he could not do that.  Some friends of his came walking up and he tried to tell the manager that some was for his friends. The manager looked at the woman and asked her what kind of gun she has.  She just looked like a deer in headlights and mumbled something.  The manager made him put all but 200 rounds back and then the sales staff locked the ammo up in the case so that people had to ask for it.

Huh? You can't buy .22 shorts for 4 cents each... even pre-panic. Either volume or price is a typo and way off. .

2100 rounds of Federal ammo for a hundred bucks

OK... I was thinking .223...  Gotta be .22LR, neither post says what caliber, just "federal".

Math time...  $99.95 divided by 2100 = $.0475952 on my calculator. That's a nickel per shot, or $25 for a 525 round brick of .22lr. OK, that's a very believable price.

What I still find hard to believe is anyone in today's ammo shortage situation who would sell 4 bricks together, instead  of seperating them to be sold to 4 people.

About what time? I checked Cabelas website for ammo (both .223 & .22LR)  about 6pm while making dinner... they had nothing listed. Not even a "rimfire" category under ammunition, like they normally have. 3 categories showed up... Rifle, Handgun, Shotgun. Clicked on Rifle, searched thru calibers, .22lr showed 1 result... clicked on that, and up comes Federal .50BMG instead. Still does it, just tried it again.  No .22lr shows under "Handgun".

Pretty unrelated, but I did just buy a Kershaw Leek knife for $14.97 at Walmart in Monona because somebody had accidentally locked it to a $14.97 price tag. I asked the SG lady to unlock it and played dumb when it rang up at $50, and they had to sell it as marked. I kinda feel like a dick, but I'd been contemplating buying that knife for a while...

No, just the one. And I'm pretty sure whoever was responsible was going to get a talking to as soon as I left. They definitely knew it was an error.

Awesome that you were able to take advantage of someones mistake.  Hopefully that employee got fired for costing the company money.  Any chance they have a pressure washer mispriced?

Wow. You never know when stuff will become available, and if you're not right on it, it's too late.

As I type this, it's Sunday morning, 10:15am. I checked Cabelas again last night, maybe 8:30pm or so. No rimfire at all. Just checked again... Hornady .17HMR & Remington Eley .22lr show up under rimfire (NOTHING there last night), but it's all gone already (not that I wanted any, but still... ). WTF? It's Sunday... who's over in Cabelas warehouse, or in an office where the website is administered, putting this shit up on the internet on a Sunday morning?

Clearly it's someone who wants only Jews and atheists to get all the ammo.

There are two boxes of .223 REM for sale at the Verona Farm & Fleet.  It's the only ones they have.  Only $23.79 each!  (20 round boxes.)

You NEED to follow the ammo thread in the ammunition forum. Often, you CANNOT search for the deal on Cabelas website. Dont even try. I think some people memorize the item numbers and google them or something. I dont know.  But follow the ammo thread like a hawk and you will find some I promise
