question, I have never been to an auction, how much would that armalite m15 likely go for?

I'm guessing anything there is gonna go near full retail for a used gun of that particular type.

If you really want a walk-in safe go to the link below.
It's not only a gun safe , it's also a safe for other valuables
and a "saferoom" for your most valuable asset , your life
and those of your loved one's. The later , in case of storms
or assault from those who would try to take what is yours.

Depends on who shows up.  If there are a bunch of "novice" shooters or collectors there it will go for near full retail or more.

I've been to several gun auctions and there are a real blast to go to.  This one is gonna have over 200 guns.  I always pick out 10-12 guns that I would really like to have, I pick out a price that makes the gun a good deal and I bid up to that point and not a penny more.  Remember there will usually be a premium paid on top of the price for FFL, and auction fees.

yes the buyers premium and sales tax tend to kill the newbies. I've been to a few auctions and can generally tell what things will sell for in a given market.

It's 70 miles round trip from my place and I have never been to a gun auction before.

If someone can convince me that I have a reasonable chance of buying that Colt Junior for less than $175 or the P22 for less than $250 I might go.

This doesn't have the looks of a personal collection.

It looks more like the remains of a gun shop that closed down.

FWIW I've been wrong before and probably am in this instance as well.

That's right near my parents house.  I'll probably go and would likely bid on the Kimbers, SA, Bushmaster, Armalite and maybe the Benelli.  Maybe more depending on what else shows up.

The ad said it was from the estate of a guy named Rhodes.  Doesn't mean he didn't own a gun shop.  If it was a personal collection, I am seriously rethinking my SHTF plans.

If anyone does go, I'm the guy with the ship tattoos on his arms.

FIrst I saw of this (missed the thread somehow?).  Wow.

I have been to a few equipment auctions recently, and no one is coming to them anymore when they don't have extra cash (economy blows == low auction prices).  We got everything from dump trucks for $1000 to like new 4-wheelers for $200.

I would have driven to this, had I known about it.  I suspect they didn't get anywhere near retail.

If my family auctions off my guns, I'm going to come back and haunt them (to slap them each over the back of the head while they sleep each night).

Don't worry, they "donate" them for $25 Walmart Gift Cards at the local gun buyback.

**AUCTION REPORT**

I went.  In my opinion, there really weren't any super deals to be found, so don't feel bad if you didn't go.  I wish I had of spend my morning at the gun show instead.  ;-)  Although other equipment auctions may be worthwhile when the economy goes south, one thing that definitely doesn't suffer is the sale of guns.  I have been to several gun auctions in the past and knew better, but it was only about 20 minutes away so I couldn't resist.  There was standing room only and I was actually surprised that they didn't start turning away people at the door because I was sure they had exceeded the maximum building occupancy (by fire code) by the time the auction started.

I didn't write any numbers down, but from what I remember, there were 3 AR-15s (2 Bushmaster xm15s and an armalite, one with an aimpoint and one with an acog and one scopeless).  They went for around 1400-1700 I believe.  The compact HK USP 9 I was watching went for 550.  The AR10A4 with a Springfield scope went for 1700.  There was one M14 with 3 mags that went for 1500+ (don't remember exact amount). Those prices may not look all that bad in todays market, but you have to remember that you have to add 13% buyers premium + 7% tax to every purchase - (3% for cash purchases) so you are adding 17% to every purchase assuming you pay cash.  That being considered, someone probably payed almost $650 for that HK and almost $2k for the ar10.  I think a lot of people forget in the heat of the bidding that they have to add that 17% at the end.  There were a lot of bolt guns (sendero, cz550, etc) and a bunch of handguns also.   Many of the guns I looked at looked unfired.  The ammo went for about gun show prices (after adding 17%) or a little more with a few deals at the very end for a few boxes of rarer calibers (i.e 458 and 375) after most of the gun crowd had left.   I believe they had about 105 gun lots not including the cases, ammo, holsters, and mags.

There probably was a deal or two there that I missed or wasn't interested in, or a deal for someone who couldn't find what they were looking for elsewhere.

If you are interested in a better auction (in my experience), I would check out the auction in Montrose, GA  www.montroseauction.com  They usually have 400+ guns of just about all types at their auction.  It is about a 2 hour drive south of Atlanta.  I have acquired a few deals from there in the past.  They usually have 2-3 auctions per year.  Unfortunately, there are usually a couple dealers there and they prevent you from getting any 'real' deals also.
