Anyone know of a place in Davis County that will do a firearm transfer for less than $25? Or is that the standard rate?
Used Cabelas in Farmington and that was a fiasco/cluster dealing with them. Never again. Any suggestions appreciated. Will be for a AR lower. |

Scan this list and give places a call to verify prices. Lots on the list for $15 (even saw one that did free transfers in Bountiful). |

http://www.fflgundealers.com/UT_guns.html Scan this list and give places a call to verify prices. Lots on the list for $15 (even saw one that did free transfers in Bountiful). That list has 2 home based FFLs and Gunnies as the only shops listed in Orem. I visited more than that many shops in Orem just while visiting UVU last month. So I dont know how up to date or comprehensive that list is. Here are a few transfer fee lines copy and pasted out of that link. Transfer fee: $15.00 plus $7.50 NICS non CFP check Transfer fee: $20.00 Plus $7.50 NICS Transfer fee: $25.00, plus $7.50 NICS ( no NICS fee for CWP holders ) Transfer fee: Transfer Fee $25.00 Shipping Handguns $25.00, Longguns $15.00 Background $7.50 Sales Tax 6.685% So, based on the NICS thing, if I have a Utah CWP, I can avoid the NICS fees? And Are FFL's legally allowed to charge sales tax on transferred firearms in Utah? I can understand if it was transferred in from elsewhere in the state but what about out of state? California currently does this but I wasn't aware that other states do this. Never did that in Texas or Virginia. |

The list is out of date. Other than the more prominent stores like Gunnies and Impact, all the numbers are disconnected, or to other businesses....
Bummer. Will just keep searching. ETA I'm not sure on the sales tax thing also. I know Cabelas in Farmington did no such thing as far as charging me sales tax for an out of state purchase, just the transfer fee. The background is waived with a CCW though. |

I hear ya. Did more digging and found this site that lists FFL's expiration dates.
http://firearm-dealers.armsrack.com/d/a/Utah/Bountiful Called a couple that still showed current FFL's and actually spoke to the listed business that was on file, and fees. Going with a guy in bountiful so we shall see. |

They did transfers for me for years @ $25, but back in November of 2015 was my last time because they charged me $40 + $7.50 and they lost my damn gun. I had to come back the following day because they couldn't find it. |

Hotlinked. I will not pay more than $10 for a transfer, that is per each 4473 as many firearms from one location. $25 for 10 minutes of paperwork? If that is all you are seeing in your area, and you have a home - start your own FFL business, charge a yearly membership and $10 per 4473. Then work towards your SOT and manufacturers license and then get into the NFA arena. Buyers market! |

If you rent, its never going to happen. Now, assuming you do own your place the costs would be: $200 for 3 years, plus insurance (you have to be an actual business so insurance, permits are not negotiable, making a profit though is), plus a separate safe for anything handled for your business (not your own personal guns)... it all adds up. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get an FFL but its not even remotely feasible and would not be practical for the next few years given my financial situation and how few guns I will be buying now that I'll be living on the GI Bill and whatever measly scholarships I can qualify for. The $10 for transfer therefore would have to cover all of the other overhead expenses mentioned above. If you know a guy who only charges you $10 per gun, cool. But to insist that you (or that anyone else) shouldn't pay more than that, that is just ridiculous. Not everybody has a best friend who owns a gun store, and FFL's have to eat too. |

Last transfer i did was through getsome in Layton.
They charged me $35, and nobody should charge you sales tax for sething they did not sell you. They can charge tax on the transfer service it self, but not on the price you paid someone else. And i was rushed with my last transfer, impulse buy for something that was on my must have list for several years now. |

Jake Ervin J&E Sales Orem, UT 84057 801-310-5057 I did a transfer through this gentleman just under a year ago. $15 transfer, no sales tax. He is an LEO who does the transfers from his home when he is off duty. |

Did you click the link hotlinked? There are about 290 FFL's in Utah that do transfers, some charge as little as $10 per 4473 (as many firearms from ONE destination). NFA has additional fees. Filling out a 4473 is literally 10 minutes of work, counting sitting on hold for 7 minutes to verify the valid Concealed Firearm permit status with BCI. My guy charges $10 per 4473, not per firearm as long as they are from the same destination/shipper. He accepts from non-FFL also. Shipments OUT are FREE of any charges, just bring the firearm, record the info, he watches it go into the box, seal it up, use his FFL as the RETURN address and it can go US MAIL. He knows his stuff, and we have been doing business since 1999. He is not accepting new clients, or I would send you his info. Paying more than $15 per 4473 is paying too much in this market. A person isn't going to get ANYTHING more from doing a transfer at $50 per firearm from GALLENSONS versus some new FFL that wants business. Except maybe a few extra lawyer forms from GALLENSONS. Some places allow a free range rental with a transfer. I completely understand that some businesses have a poor business model and have huge overhead costs and want to discourage people from buying and selling firearms and only using the FFL for the transfer and eliminating them as the middleman and their mark-ups and profit margin. I say, great, but there are still PLENTY of folks with FFL's in Utah that do transfers for lower prices. Shop around, its a buyers market. You can choose. ~Will |
