Ok I've got it down to a Sig P-220, Glock 21, or Stoeger Cougar. I have shot and like the Sig, but haven’t shot the other 2. Would someone meet up with me and help me out. I will pay for the ammo I shoot. A Cougar in 9mm, 40S&W, or 45acp. For the Glock the same, but only the full size frame. This is more about trigger pull than caliber. I live in ME, but work in ME/CT.
    Thanks, Mark

Most ranges have Glock rentals available. Hoffman's even has the 10-10 option available if you are only looking to take a few shots with a GLock.

You can afford the Sig and you're not buying it?

I have an  XDM you can try out but no Glocks.

Go to a range and rent some guns.  You need to spend some time shooting them before you can really honestly say that you even like them.

Also, the mission should drive the equipment choice.  What are you buying a gun for?  Target practice?  Concealed carry?  Practical matches?

My advice is to get a gun with one trigger pull.

That is one trigger pull to master not two. Don't kid yourself and say the Sig's Single Action trigger pull is great and figure you will shot it that way most of the time. You can't carry it that way it should be decocked. Therefore in any defensive use or training where you have to draw and shoot it will be Double Action for the first shot then SA for additional shots.

I prefer double/single guns–– and it is not that difficult to master. In fact, I don't even give the difference much consideration- though, having a nice SA trigger is helpful for longer range shooting.

ex. With my 6906, I can draw from concealment (El Paso IWB holster under a Polo), disengage the safety, and have a round in the q-zone, fired DA, @ 21 feet in 3/4 of a second. From the low-ready, safety/decocker engaged, I can raise, disengage the safety fire 1 round DA, and 5 rounds SA, into a well placed palm sized group from the same distance in just over one and a half seconds.  I can use the same compact gun, with its fixed Novak carry sights, in single action, to easily shoot bowling pins at 25 yards.

Had I wanted to, I could have bought a 6946- the same gun in DAO. While I looked at one, I didn't seriously consider buying it. Same reason why I would buy a 5906 over a 5946 if I was buying a full size.

My humble opinion is that you should get the one that fits your hand best and that you shoot best.  Usually those 2 items coincide.  I like the Sig a lot and have no experience with the Stoeger.  The Glock 21 is too big for my hands.  Good luck with your choice!

This is good advice!

FWIW I had a Sig 220 and S&W 4506 and loved them both(actually liked the 4506 over the 220). When the Glock 30(subcompact .45) first came out I got one and fell in love with it. It was all I carried after that and shortly thereafter sold my Sig 220 and S&W 4506. My personal opinion is that the SIG 220 was over rated and that my S&W 4506 was better than it, but the Glock 30 was better than both of them. I could shoot it just as well, if not better,  and it had 10+1 capacity in a more concealable size compared to the other 2. Don't get me wrong the  others were both fine pistols, I just liked the Glock tthe best.

If I had to rate them in order it would be Glock 30 , S&W 4506, and SIG 220 last.

Like I said this is my personal opinion  of the models I listed and YMMV. But like inGob said, get the one that fits you the best

If the Glock is on your list, the S&W M&P should be on there too.  Especially if you are considering the G21

Pretty certain that you can get the M&P with, or without a manual safety if that matters to you.  And you would still benefit from the "1 trigger" that the glock offers.
