90wk course, recognised as a 2 years deal the last 2 year vo-tech course I took was a joke, I went through the entire course work (books/projects) in 8 weeks and graduated with diploma. got some funny looks and a lot of questions when interviewing, damned if I got a job, quite a few stated if I could graduate a 2 year course in 8 weeks they suspected the course wasn't up to standard; although I showed all examples of my work and they told me it was very good, they couldn't afford to take a chance hiring me with no real work experience . FUCK moore/norman vo tech
I did take another vo tech course, that was at metro tech for armed security, turned in a app and got hired by the chickashas before I made it back to the house, so not all votech course are suspect. |

counting on my fingers it was a bit longer than 8 weeks, I started last week of january and completed the course/spoke with the councilor first week of May.
I don't recommend any course at moore/norman, unless of course your in highschool, I took the electrican course my junior/senior year for hs credit hours, then again I hear the ged course they offer is alright. |

It's usually taught by retired cops working for some security company. The CareerTechs don't have anybody permanently on staff concerned about teaching Security Guards. They hire part time help who are cops or retired cops to teach the classes. FWIW, the CareerTechs are the pushing factor for CEUs for all state licensing. They figure people will have to come to them to keep their licenses if they get bills passed requiring CEUs. That way they can justify their existence and leaching of funds from the taxpayers. |

don't matter where you take the security course, they all teach out of the same book{s} and you take the same test{s} to get licensed. besides man, common sence will take a man a long way in life, and I'm pretty common, plus I carry a lot of ammo cause I can't shoot worth a damn if you're still looking for a different security job, the casino is still looking for somebody{ies} that can walk, talk, smoke cigerettes and drink free coke. |

quitter if you know anybody with a bit of sence that needs a job let them know, it's Goddamned near the easiest security work anyone will ever do. afaik they're hiring both unarmed and armed, the unarmed that understands what casino security is and wants to be armed they'll send to school, cleet testing and licensed as my casino requires the cleet cert to be armed. |

The politics are a bitch though yep, politics can be a bit much, with the job I do for the tribe I've remained neutral in the politics, I don't choose sides because the ordinence I work from states that "I shall protect the best interests of the casino and tribe", can't get involved in politics if I'm to follow the ordinence I agreed to uphold; so for the most part I am left alone to do my work. of course when asked what I think of this/that, I always give my heartfelt opinion, normaly those people asking, don't ask me anymore questions
course there are lots of people that can't separate their employment from politics, most don't last in the job long, and a few others employment last too long. |

I've seen some real horrendous politics in the state and federal employees I was around.
Hard work and loyalty won't get you promoted. It keeps you in the same spot so they can promote the suck asses and kin folk. When a really shitty and important job comes up, they give it to their best hands so it will get done. But if it goes south, the best hand gets a black eye and the blame. If there is glory in the final results, the ass kissers show up out of the wood work to take credit and push the real heroes to the back. Then there are the old ladies who have nothing to do but screw someone over every chance they can just so they can keep in practice. And those old ladies may be men or real old ladies. I remember working on construction jobs where if you jumped on a dirty work assignment and got it done in a hurry, more than likely you get the next one too. I once put in over 400 ft of 4" rigid conduit in a duct bank in a trench with no help. That included loading them up, stringing them along side the ditch, climbing down in the ditch and threading each 100+ lb joint on and then strapping them down for the concrete pour. I got it done in a little under a day. i was caked with mud from the sweat and dirt. I knocked off at 4:10 when quitting time was 4:30. I was at the water bucket when a dick head told me I was going to break the employer by being such a fuck off. He'd been sitting in the shack all day trying to balance his check book. He took off after I threw a pair of channel locks at him. I was going to beat him to death. He got in his truck and left with everything unlocked. Of course I locked everything up.
I found another job the next day and he got smoked by the employer when the general contractor told him what happened. He sucked his way into another supervision job with another employer and I got stuck on another bull gang for another company. That was over 35 years ago. I didn't learn a damn thing from it. I was a gung ho hand back then. I saw even worse ethics and treatment for contract instructors by OU and the USPS a few years ago. But that is the way it is and it's every dog for himself anymore. |
