...I have been looking at the Bushmaster BCWA3F-16M4, which I can get for a little under $900. Is this a good way to go? I was in the market for an AR a couple years ago, never got one, but this XMAS I am back in the market. Not sure where to start, but I do know I want a carbine. Headed to the gun show this weekend to put my hands on some ARs, see what other choices I have.

Thanks for your input,

If I were you I would contact HDI regarding a LMT upper and lower.
Price is not that much more and you will never look back in regret.

You could also buy a stripped lower, order all of the pieces you want and then host an ARFCOMM get together at your pad. I am sure some of your brothas would volunteer to bring tools and knowledge in exchange for beer and chips.
If you were in the North, I'd invite ya to come over to Hamdog's and we could build ya one.

Just remember you get what you pay for with AR's.  Usually for several hundred more you can get a much better AR than a Bushmaster.  It all depends on wht you are going to use it for.  Are you going to just be plinking a couple hundred rounds a year with it?  Is it a duty gun?  Training gun?  Will you be taking it to classes where you will shoot 1,500 rounds in two days?

For a plinker, any AR will work. If you have any more serious uses for it, I'd strongly suggest you look at complete Colt, LMT, or Noveske.  A HDI lower and a LMT upper would be a great package and will easily be under $900.

One of my students just put together an LMT Defender for about $1250.00. He might have been able to get stuff a little cheaper, but he didn't want to deal with any bullshit so he just ordered everything as he saw it online.

Real nice rifle for the money.

LMT 14.5" Upper  $485.00

Standard Single Action Bolt Group  $129.00

theres a bunch of ways to do it J&T worked for me though and with Freewilly he showed me how it's done(build)

As already posted theres better kits than others and some folks just have preference plain and simple at any rate theres some good deals on built Rifles for what a lower and upper will cost in the end,the Pride you own was worth your efforts regardless

Just Opinion

Wilson Bull barrel Ported and lapped, this that and other little upgrades that come with the Fever the other is a Bushy Dissapator and worthy also

Someone is selling a Cav-arms lower for $200...

Then add the Armalite upper sale price of $350, and you have a good gun pretty cheap!

I would choose a 14.5" or 16" LMT or Colt 6920 as my base gun.  For a little more, a Noveske Carbine.  You will never go wrong with any of these...

This site is about as good as you're going to get as far as selection and price.  There are complete rifles as well as complete uppers available right here on the Equipment exchange.

Take the carry handle off and mount that optic to the upper receiver. Take off the bipod too, I only have a bipod on my 24" bull barreled target AR.  Looks nice though!

You have a nice rifle.

I agree with Wolfpack's recommendations:

You might also look into an LMT upper with a 14.5" barrel with 1/7 twist and a permanently attached Yankee Hill Phantom 5C2 Comp or YHM-28A Flash Suppressor.

I wasn't sure if you were kidding or not, as it appears that you have most accessories covered.

+1 to Wolfpack's scope mounting suggestion. I would make sure your gas key is properly staked, and have the appropriately-tensioned extractor spring. Zip tie that butt pad on; i've had one come off during a class (snagged on something).

I like the magpul triggerguard and the PRI Big Latch for weak hand charging.

Wolfpack, Joe and Chiz,

Thanks for the comments. Been winging this without real input. Use to do competion shooting years ago and now getting into the tactical side. All the help would be appreciated. Joe, need to get into some of your classes. Have to drop by and meet you.

Thanks again.

Take from someone who has spent way too much on guns and gadgets in the past and not enough on training (something that I have been fixing lately) - don't spend anymore on gadgets - buy lots of ammo and train with it.  One of the guys I train with said something that is very true the other day.  He mentioned how it is amazing how many people consider themselves part of the shooting community......who can't shoot.  Most people love buying all the toys, but when they get on the range, they are garbage.  Many of us fall in that category.  You have a good set up, learn to be fast, smooth, efficient and accurate with it now.

That is very good advice. Always looking for people to go shooting with, so I will look for any postings.
