We'll kind of. A mid-westerner, and I'm heading to Scottsdale for 5 weeks. I'll be getting into town on the night of the 25th, staying through the end of July. Any suggestions for things to do and see while I'm there? Places that appeal to a shooting bum? I'll have weekends to do a few day trips, and a long weekend on the 4th. Any suggestions? Day trip or overnight hiking spots? Also, where do you go to shoot? I'm going to be bringing a few toys, and 5 weeks is too long to go without the smell of gunpowder. Thanks, Wolffie |

For ranges, look here. We have an incredible number of ranges in and around Phoenix. If you are a competitive shooter you will find whatever you like in the area. Rio Salado/Usery Pass recently opened up a 16-station sporting clays course set in a natural desert setting that is a blast (and humbling at the same time). Dyas trips: Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff. Plus there is stuff to do around Tucson. Overnight hiking, try the Flagstaff area or even up to the Grand Canyon. For window shopping you should go to Scottsdale Gun Club. They also offer MG rentals. Shooters World is also a fun place to visit. |
To be honest this the worst time of the year to vist for shooting fun. 90% of the desert is closed around the PHX area. |

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. Grand canyon is on the list, probably for the fourth of july weekend, assuming I can get a campground or lodging within 20 miles. Sedona is another good idea. Shooting wise, Scottsdale gun club, Shooter's world and Dillon are places to see. I've also been told to check out ASA. How is Scottsdale? Any place for a single 27 year old "Dr. Wolffie to be" male to get into trouble? Anyone interested in meeting up for some shooting or a beer? |
Too late... they are out of business. Instead, swing by Ameetec -- they are a much nicer crew with a good selection of AR stuff.
Bring your checkbook. Not because it's expensive, but many of a cuties will need to see it before they will consider talking to you... ![]()
Sure.... let us know when you get to town and I'm sure something can be set up. |
