I say we make a thread for the Fort Riley area including Junction City/manhattan/Ogden stating our experiences with FFL's in the area since everyone and their mother has a FFL here and most of them seem out to take advantage of the new soldiers getting stationed here.
Quantico tactical = Good to go, good advice, good prices and gives mil discount. The range is good just dont take anything they offer you to use, you will be charged for it. Ogden guns = Pretty sketchy, Wanted $150 to do FFL transfer of 5 guns stating each gun had to be put on a different paper, which is a lie. The cost of a transfer fee for a ffl is $2 per paper and if all weapons are same ie rifles, they go on the same piece of paper. They also charge $200 for 420rd of xm855 when you can get at walmart for 159.99 and quantico for 145.99. 2 different times I was treated very rudely by employees. |

I was going to ask about the Ft Riley area today!
Im PCS'ing to Riley in June and was wondering some of those same questions, as well as: What's a good neighborhood/town to live in? Im preferrably looking for something close to post, in a good school district... Should I rent a house or APT? Id like a house, but most of the 2BR's look torn to shreds, and I really dont need a 5-6BR house to myself... I have 2 kids that will be coming to live with me sooner or later, so a 3-4BR would be idea, preferably with a basement for a Man Room.. I hear there is a range on post that is open to DOD/CAC card holders, still there? does it go past 300m? Any type of general knowledge/tips about the area would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!!! V/R Danny |

| Is Godfrey's range the same one that Quantico Tactical is using or do they have their own. I'm PCS'ing to Riley in June/July and looking for a gun club. Also anyone shoot USPSA in the area? from looking at the website the closest I can find is Capitol City Practical Shooters in Topeka. |
|
Does anyone have a line on a 2-3 BR place with a basement for rent?
Already looked on craigslist, and i trust the folks on ARF much much more Also? Where does a guy go to find himself a nice girl around Ft Riley without having to worry about if the nice girl in question is not quote so nice, or single? |

That's the college area right?
I try to stay away from where Soldiers hang out. Nothing against my boys, I just hate having to either: A) end up babysitting some drunk Private so he doesnt go to jail B) getting in fights with/because of said Private.. Im also looking for places where said Soldier's less than honorable and faithful wife is known to frequent.. Sad state of affairs, but it is what it is.. |

Im also looking for places where said Soldier's less than honorable and faithful wife is known to frequent.. Sad state of affairs, but it is what it is.. It's a 6 block area (give or take), that's nothing but bars and eateries, right next to campus. You won't find an area that soldiers don't hang out in. Stay home if you want to avoid them(or drive far far away). Again, Aggieville is the place to be if you're looking for that |
| If you're still interested in things to do around Fort Riley and you happen to be in the area, Fort Riley MWR is hold their annual Great Escapes Expo today from 10-3, which highlights a lot of great vendors in the area that will help you with your summer activities. |

Avoid ogdens best. like the plague. they sat on a form 4 send back(they put in the wrong serial number for the suppressor) for 4 months. they also told me not to fill out the top of the finger print cards. needed to get new finger print cards and have them amended the form 4. this was my first suppressor. grand total of 8 months. have more stories, but the gist of it is, they don't like their customers.
go godreys for class 3. also, another vote for aggieville. |

Does anybody know anybody that needs a roommate or is wanting to move? Im moving into the area on 1July, so Im looking for a place/roommate.
Preferably have a yard w/ fence for the dag, and some basement/garage space so I can reload.. Willing to pay a larger share for the extra room.. Looking to spend around $500-800 per month Thanks!!! |

I'm surprised with the bad reports from Ogden's Best. I've been in there plenty of times and had no troubles. If you guys are having a bad time with Ogden's Best you really need to talk to Barry, the owner.
Pat's Pawn, or whatever they're calling it now, used to be the suck. Overpriced, worn out junk. |

Pats pawn is still the suck, went in there once and won't go back. I've had nothing but good experiences with Ogdens best. You have to relaize they deal with wanna be ranger/ninja/seals all day so they can be a little jaded. But if you are polite and don't act like a jackass they will deal with you and treat you right. Plus, they have an in house gun smith, quantico doesn't. I hit quantico once in a while. Their team quantico deals are pretty good and they send you e-mails about hot deals, which saved me a ton of money on ammo. I wish they sold more gun parts instead of so many clothes but that's just me. Godfrey's is definitley the nicest range in the area, Ogdens range is ok too though. And sometime the employees will come in and fuck around with the Class II stuff and let you shoot it for free. Just have to catch them at the right time. Rnage 4 on post is your best bet for outdoor or long range shooting. Open jsut about every weekend and it's a nice facility. Your guns MUST be registered on post though, they will check. Also, no double taps or training type shooting, but it's a good place to go plinking or take the kids. Range goes out to 300 meters. Every once in a while they will open range 9 so you can shoot the pop ups, that's rare though. |

How do you get access to range 4? Do you just show up or do you have to reserve it? From what I have been told (maybe someone with some actual experience at range 4 will chime in), is that you just show up. I think the hours for POWs is 10ish to midafternoon, but only on Sundays. Make sure you have your registration with you though. |

Is there anything that goes out past 300 that we can use? By past, I mean signifigantly past 300. |

Unless the weather is absolutely horrible they will be open. They have never checked my ID card and I know alot of guys take their girlfriends and friends out there so I don't think they are strict about the ID card thing as long as you have an escort. They are open from 1000-1500. Occasionally they will open range 9 for rifles only. I believe they have pop ups out to 400 meters but I'm not sure. Biggest thing is you MUST have your post registration cards with you, they will ALWAYS check to make sure every gun you bring is on that card. Also, there is no Class III or suppressors allowed on Fort Riley. They have the standard one shot per three seconds rule so no mag dumps but they have let me slide with double taps befor, just depends on who is running it at the time. You can shoot anything up to and including .50 caliber there and they provide free targets and stands as well as ear and eye pro. It's really a nice range and it is run by friendly people. More Joes need to use it. |
| Conceal carry is an easy 8-hour class and a range shoot. The sheriff gets $32.50 and the state gets $100. For NFA stuff, you may consider a NFA Trust (PM me if you want me to refer an attorney). In a nutshell, with a trust you avoid the local stuff. Plus, there are plenty of Class III places around to help. |

I was reading the SOP for POW range ops the other day. No NFA items are allowed and no AP, tracer or incendiary rounds. Nothing too major, but something to keep in mind. Class III and suppressors are banned on Fort Riley. Can't possess them even if they aren't attached to a weapon. |

Got to Manhattan on Friday the 29th, at about 3am. Got settled into the house Im renting in NE Manhattan on Sat evening. Started in-processing on Tuesday.
Everyone seems quite friendly and helpful in my neighborhood. Im very grateful for that. Took a drive to JC today, just to see what the town was like. Quantico was closed, but Godfrey's was open and doing a brisk business. Got to talking with Todd, the owner, and he couldnt have been a bigger help or a nicer guy. Asked him a metric shit ton of questions, and he gave me a personal walking tour of his entire facility. Super nice operation, I gotta say. Needless to say, that's where I'll be conducting my business. Cant wait to get into Quantico and see what they have to offer! Thanks Todd, youre the man! |

who has the best transfer fees in the area my deal back home was up to 3 for 20 any luck on something similar? and anybody doing the glock distributor deals starting at 398? and do you have any waiting laws when purchasing a handgun? Last time I did a transfer, it was 3 lowers through Quantico. They charged $25/per. I figured they would only charge one fee since they were all on the same form, or at least a discount of some sort.

We are not Glock Blue Label just yet. We can get you in a S&W M&P with three mags for $398/$455 with night sights. We have Springfield XD pistols from $439/$516(ns) with three mags as well. Waiting time is the length of the FBI check phone call, provided you do not get a delay or deny. PM me and I'll send you a discount code so your first transfer will be $10. Ask about Team Quantico Tactical, and save money every time you're in!

Definitely stay in contact with the housing office. They have the off-limits list, naturally. I live on post with my Active Duty wife (I'm a Staff Sergeant in the Reserves), which has it's pluses and minuses (of course). The best things you can do is: 1. Rely on your sponsor, 2. Relay on your fellow ARFers, and 3. Look at other sites, such as KSCCW.com. We'll help you where we can, but there's a LOT of construction going on and I really haven't looked too much as housing around here. Matthew GM
