My Freezer got really cold (froze a bottle of rum cold) a week ago, and the fridge pretty much stopped working, I defrosted both over night and it worked fine again.
Well now the fridge is starting to warm up again and it feels like the freezer isnt to cold anymore either (everything is still frozen)

What gives..??

Does anyone know of a decent repair service in St Marys/Kingsland area?

Not a fridge repair guy, but have you done the easy stuff yet?  Like open the back, and clean out any radiator like coils of all dust and such?   Mine was pretty gunked up after 10 years, and a good cleaning helped it out a lot.   Also checking the door seals for any leaks by feeling all around them for escaping cold air.

I had this problem on two different refrigerators over the years with two different problems.  On one, with a top freezer, it was the fan blocked in the freezer which moves the air to the bottom fridge.  On the other it was the defrost timer.  Both were easy to fix without much money.

Fridge is 4 years old, I have not opened up the back yet, but I have noticed a tiny bit of ice/frost build up around the freezer door..
Another poster in the GD (cross posted it there) mentioned the fan being the issue when he had a similar problem..

Thanks for the help.

Bunch of frost built up on the back wall of freezer? If so it isn't going into self defrost.

Your symptoms suggest either the defrost timer is bad or the defrost heater element is burned.

You can force the defroster, but it's kinda hard to describe in text.  Google it.  But, did you notice the heating element around the cooling coils when you had the cover off?  Disconnect the wires and use an ohm meter to see if it's 'bad'.  Put one lead on one side and the other on the other side of the element's connectors.  If the readout shows no current passing through, the element is bad.  The resistance through the element is fairly high so be sure you don't have the scale set on X1 because you might not see the needle move on that setting.

Alright, I dont know whats up with this thing.. I picked up a mini fridge so I could keep the "must cool" stuff cold while figuring out whats up with the damn thing (wanted a small beer fridge anyways)
Then when I got home, the f-ing fridge is cold again... (I doubt I caught it in a defrost cycle, unless they last for like 3 hours and bring the temp to damn near room temp)

It never really had any ice build up to speak of, I am probably just gonna find someone that can check it out. I dont wanna mess it up more than it is..

We had the same problem. It's a side by side, right?
The fridge part sucks cold air from the freezer part - usually through slats on the back wall of the freezer part. We had bought a lot of groceries and all of it was stacked into the freezer - so it blocked those vents and no cold air could get to the fridge...at least that's what the repair guy said...we cleaned it out, put more stuff in the chest freezer and defrosted the whole thing then it worked fine again.

No, it is a bottom freezer, but you might be on the right track with the air movement. Another member have a similar model, and the fan went bad on his, it would randomly stop working before it finally died..

Ahh ok, bottom...it could be. I remember our fan having some issues as well - some of the wiring was binding it up from time to time. Had to remove the polystyrene cover and adjust the wires a little and it's still going strong - so it could be that you have a fan problem. What part of GA are you located in?

Ok, if you were up here I would have been able to recommend a good guy that fixes appliances at a very reasonable price...beer fridge FTW though...good luck.

Appreciate that, I'm gonna do some research today, hopefully there is someone decent in my area too.
But yeah, at least I got something out of the whole thing.

Thanks

By responding to this, I caused a ripple in the appliance force around my house.  Waiting on gas solenoid coils for my dryer to show up in the mail.   I am sure another appliance is getting jealous right now.

My trucks and appliances generally sense a disturbance in the force when I have any kind of money saved up for a gun purchase...

Many years ago, I sold an AK, to put cash towards a FAL.  It was the last push to get the FAL.  I had the money in an envelope in the kitchen drawer.   I was out of town on business, just at the right time for my wife at the time to give the envelope to the home depot folks to replace the fridge that died the day after I left.   I swear, some days I would rather cool my Dr. pepper in a stream, and cook over a fire.

Amazon prime is pretty slick for appliance parts in a hurry though.  Ordered a pair of solenoid coils for 11 bucks shipped on Sat night, and they will be here this afternoon.  My (new, improved) wife will stop making those annoyed noises as soon as it s fixed.
