So I grew up hunting frogs with my dad using pellet guns.  I haven't gone in MANY years and been thinking about where I could go now.  I used to hunt a reservoir in the Catskills.  I doubt I could even find the place now.

The place was great, pretty much all timber right to the waterline, almost no cattails or silt to trudge through.  And enough circumference to make it a few hour hunt.

Anyone know if there is anyplace like this closer to Rochester?

Anyone still hunt frogs?

We used to Frog hunt from an Airboat using a four tine gig mounted on a 8' Bamboo cane pole...it's kind of like jousting.
Couple years ago we hit an abandoned gravel pit that was full of Leopard Bull Frogs.....shot them with a Pellet Rifle, man they were good!
My Boys and a couple of their friends were not too eager to try them, but a couple really came to like them.

Still a pretty popular thing in the north country.

Yeah and afterwards you can stop in at Herrings Historical Inn and sing karaoke with the local "wildlife".

Use a pole/rod with a small hook and a piece of red fabric/yarn, easier retrieval.

I have never done it, but I have seen many people do it at 'the swamps' aka Tonawanda WMA.  It would be a little ride from Rochester but it's in the ballpark.

Just remember it as one of your adventures in life.....I once herad the term "tundra-pigs" used to describe some of the wildlife.
