For what it's worth, I just got home from work to find a Future Weapons Marathon going on the Discovery Channel.  Thought maybe some of you might enjoy!

Way ahead of you, but thanks for the info anyway.

Very cool show. I like the one where the missile blows a smoke ring out the window of the building.

Although I've only seen a few episodes, I think my fav. this far was blowing up melons behind concrete blocks with the Semi-auto .50 cal.

Or disarming car bombs with a water gun!

They just finished going over Land Warrior, and they're doing Strykers next. Unfortunately, they only highlighted the "talking head" points of land warrior, and really none of the drawbacks.

I noticed that too.  Still it's a far cry from what I had 9 years ago.  You guys are well equipped nowadays.

Funny... I was thinking about your "2 weeks" thread watching the Stryker bit.  More after the commercial.

Also, the 9pm episode is touting some AR variant (couldn't tell) that is weather resistant, jam resistant, blah blah blah.  Looked like an AR with a free float quad rail to me... But that was a quick 2 second spot.

$1 says it's the HK416

Yup, you win $1...
Not available to Civi's as of 2007

ETA: Holy AR Batman.  After watching that segment I think I have wood. The grenade launcher is pretty sweet as well!

You're right. And yeah, I'd love one. But for the practical use, why not just replace the gas block, the bolt carrier, and change out the gas tube for a piston? More like the POF uppers?

That's because it's a propaganda show, and not really an educational one. It's designed to make us Americans (and any BGs out there) go "Woah! That's some neat shit they got there! There's no way we can lose (BG would say no way we can win) with *that* kind of weaponry!"

It's a neat show, but mostly a form of mental masturbation...imho

I notice they didn't show what happens when the Land Warriors battery gets shot, might have raised (or burnt off) a few eyebrows.

Did you see the slow-motion of that .50!(?) Holy moly, the scope and rail it was on flexed so much it looked like they were made of rubber.

Was at work and missed the marathon, agree its more of a PR thing for anything they feature on the show, don't show/mention any drawbacks, but I guess they probably wouldn't get the access/permission to film the weapons otherwise. I Still watch the show anyway.

And I'm sure most of you go to movies and dissect the fact that most action starts don't reload their guns too... C'mon, it's a TV show, take it for it's worth.  If you want the technical data, visit the website of the company for whatever they are showing.

Wanna know the funny thing about those HK416 tests that they shovel on anyone who will listen?

Gene Stoner did virtually those same tests on camera back in the day with the original AR10 and AR15, giving virtually the same reasons why the AR platform was so revolutionary and better then anything out there.

I have seen the old video's of Gene stoner covering an AR in beach sand, picking it up out of the sand and then shooting it without so much as shaking it off.

I have seen the old footage of Gene Stoner running out of the surf all dripping wet with an AR and shooting it to prove how good it was.

Not saying that the HK416 is a bad system, but its all been done before by the very system that they say they are trying to replace.

BLASPHEMER!!! You must now be burnt at the alter of, "It's newer so it must be better."

It's down the street from the chapel of the religion of KISS and anything new is always bad.

Good to know.. Thanks Grumpy.  *I* have not seen the Stoner video's.  So that was all new to me, and impressive.  I did like the look, but it is an AR with a free float front, could be mimiced pretty easy.  I think I might build my TEAM WA lower to look like the H&K416.

What I really liked was the grenade launcher.  That was damn sweet on the rail system.  I might be convinced, Rails are the greatest thing since sliced bread!

Okay, so I lied.  He DID shake it off alittle after covering it in sand.

But then he did somthing that we havn't seen HK do, which is follow it up by dipping it in mud.  Not just dirt, or just water, but pure mud.

Download movie here

Oh yea, and it also shows a very rare belt fed model AR10 as well.

That was a cool old video. Reminds me of the stuff on the reel to reels you used to watch in history class back in school.  I like the belt fed system!  I'm sure PCR would die to get his hands on that!  A bumpfire dream come true for him!!!

As for the H&K... Bruce Davidson, part of the design team on the 416 did state on Future Weapons that part of their testing was burying it in mud, however the show did not actually do it.  Sounds to me like they the took that same video from Armalite as guidance!
