Greetings from SC.

I occasionally pass through GA on my way to & from TN.  I was looking the=rough the Firearms Codes thread tacked above and saw the statement below.

(e) On and after October 1, 1996, a person licensed to carry a handgun in any state whose laws recognize and give effect within such state to a license issued pursuant to this part shall be authorized to carry a handgun in this state, but only while the licensee is not a resident of this state; provided, however, that such licenseholder shall carry the handgun in compliance with the laws of this state.

I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one in the movies, but as a layman reading this it seems like a non-resident from another state with a valid permit can carry in GA.  I'd like to get some clarification from some of you guys with more knowledge.

Thanks.

Not from south Carolina sorry. Your state doesn't honor Ga.'s so we don't honor yours. Now if you had a FL non res license you'd be covered. Or a Utah.

SC residents are lucky as far as GA is concerned. They can get not resident licenses from other states that recognize GA and carry in GA. But SC only recognizes" resident" licenses from states with similar licence requirements, Since GA does not require simple traning like SC does the only way a non resident can get a SC license is to own property in SC and take the course there then get the license. I took the course  two weeks ago in SC but have not yet bought the property.

Although you can't carry in Georgia with you SC permit, you can keep a loaded handgun in your glove box, or center console as per our peaceable journey law.  Any law abiding citizen can keep a loaded gun in those locations without a permit.   I think you can also have it in plain view, but I have a hard time with that one because it may get you more trouble than you want if you get pulled over.
