Anyone know where I can find a gas block for my AR here locally? I'm running a Daniel Defense 9.5 FSP and would like the gas block to run even with the top rail. I'm not looking for a low profile one. I want the one with the rail across the top. (Running even with the top of the existing rail so that when I mount my flip ups on it its positioned correctly.)
(Las Vegas area) Already tried New Frontier Armory and American Shooters |

Do you know how far above the barrel the rail is? .750" barrel? See this thread...I have one I can measure up for you... http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=125&t=806084 |

i was just looking at the one Kieth linked to in his ad on another board before i clicked on this thread. small world!
perhaps someone makes a riser that would bring it up to the right height? not exactly the cleanest solution, but it could work. however, that's probably not what i'd do if i was going that route. most, or at least a lot of people seem to be going with a lo-pro gas block and a longer handguard and a sling mount on the rail, but that's not exactly a simple solution. however, clean lo-pro gas blocks seem to be everywhere, and 12" rails are not hard to find, 9" rails are not hard to sell. dorry, haven't seen any high, railed gas blocks recently. |

Ya I know they have gas block size front sights (Im trying to be cheap. I already have the 9.5 fsp rail and already have a troy flip up. So If I can find the right gas block Ill be GTG.) Ive thought about doing all of the above...but bottom line is all those solutions will end up costing me cash....probably 300 or so If I decide to go with a different rail. IF I just went with a low pro railed gas block Ill have to buy flip up gas block height sights in addition to the gas block. So that makes it 175ish. If I can just find the right gas block I can run what I have for 60 bucks or so.
Midwest makes one http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=252 I just haven't found one locally. |

(even at one of the good shops). this applies to other types of stuff to, not just guns. pick any hobby and you'll find the same problem. we don't have the population to support many shops that keep some of the specialized stuff in stock. for the most part shops carry the stuff that anyone and everyone will buy. as much as i try to support the local guys, by the time you drive all over the valley hunting for something it's usually quicker, cheaper and faster to buy some of this stuff online. i've gotten tired of the "deer in the headlights" stares i get when hunting for some things. |

This rail riser would be an option: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23256/Product/AR_15_M16_MINI_RISER_ASSEMBLY But by the time you buy that and a standard gas block, you're into it the $70 you need to spend to get the MI one you listed above. |

Looked at that one..it actually made the plane too high... I went ahead and ordered the one from Midwest. Hopefully that solves my problem. Thanks for the help anyway. |
