I get gas quite a bit in PA since Im down that way a lot and Im not too far from the border.
I noticed that they still have the little studs in the handle that you can lock the pump trigger into to let it pump without holding it. As far as I can tell, no pumps in NY let you do this. At least not near me. Is this a state-wide thing? Like Jersey's "Youre not trusted enough to pump your own gas" law. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Usually only the full service pumps have them.
Many many years ago I got suckered by someone with them. Somebody'd put the nozzle back in, then locked the handle. Here I come, pull out the nozzle and turn the pump on (the old side lever ones) and start walking over to my car... and out comes the gas like a fire hose shooting clear over my car. WTF!? I was able to jam it in the tank quickly, but missed the filler hole and it was only going down inside the fender! Shit! Good lord what a mess. All over the car, all over me, a small lake of gas on the ground. 
I got the hell out of there as quick as I could and didn't come back for a long time.

Just saw that in the BP corner of Pulaski/Larkfield. Thought it was self serve, started pumping, noticed I could lock the pump trigger and said "finally!". Then Babu came out from under the counter in the vestibule. (really. Have no idea what the fuck he was doing.. Then another guy came out) and both started yelling at me. I really think he might have been blowing the older guy. He looked like a "recent import", no English, yelling at me in that filthy, 3rd world babble. I ignored him. |

Haha! In Huntington everything is full serve. Apparently we need to be protected from pumping our own gas in this town, but everywhere else in LI/NY we can pump for ourselves?!
When I first moved to the area it took a couple times searching for a non full serve place before I researched it online. Did a search and apparently the town supervisor thinks its waaaay too unsafe for us to do ourselves. That's where the irony is, the full serve pumps are always left unattended thanks to the little trigger lock! |

Quoted: Yea, its a state firemarshal rule. correct, there is a station by me that offers full at self serve prices from like 0700-1930, I noticed for years they used to keep a tennis ball on top of ever pump, however for the last 2 years or so they just re-installed the handle lock. I can't even remember the last time that i didn't just put hte nozzle into my tank, pull the handle then put my gas cap between the handle and guard and then just sit back down on my drivers seat and relax or go do the windows or some such. Its such a ridiculous rule although I cant say i blame them since people are incredibly stupid as a rule. |

Just remember if you decide to get back into the car then when you get out to touch something metal away from the nozzle/hose first. The static electricity of you rubbing on a seat is a son of a bitch near gas vapors. Youtube static electricity gas pump fire. Ive discharged quite a few good sparks myself. Something to be cognizant of.. |
