I am sure this has been asked before, but I have recently moved to Chantilly, Va. I am looking for the process to get my CCW, and suggestions on where to take the class. I have had a bad experience taking a class in Ga.(instructor had an AD, and missed me by about 6 inches) so any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. thump |

Thumper I don't have a lot of time for a lengthy reply, but basically you fill out the VA State Police CCW application and file it through the Circuit Court in Chantilly, VA. Below is the link to the VA State Police where you can download the application. It also provides a number of FAQ's as well. www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_ResidentConcealed.shtm Also, check out the Virginia Citizens Defense League AKA VCDL's website. This is the premier Virginia gun rights activist organization. Their website is loaded with information and I can't recommend your joining strongly enough. www.vcdl.org/ |

If you've ever been in the military or taken a hunter's safety class (hell your GA class probably counts) you should be good to go as far as training. The process is simple, fill out the app, attach the proof of training (for me it was a copy of my .mil ID card), submit it with the fee (no greater than $50, state mandated limit), some localities require fingerprints (most don't), wait no longer than 45 days for the answer. |

As a follow-up your in Fairfax County and the courthouse off 123 is where you need to file your paperwork. No fingerprints required in ffx cty. Paperwork is running 45+ days, according to other sites. FFX Cty Process There are numerous classes, Blue Ridge Arsenal, the NRA range, Arlington- Fairfax IWLA, among others all have classes to meet the requirement. Yes if you have a hunter's safety or previous classes, that will meet the requirement. Suggest that even if you don't need the class, take one anyway to become familiar with the local laws. |
Chantilly is a post office, not a legal entity. Since it is located in Fairfax County, that is the court of jurisdiction. After 45 days you can drop in and pick up a copy of your application from the clerk (they are supposed to mail it if they miss the deadline) and it becomes a temporary permit.
