GEEEZ, I almost died -- old heart felt like it was going to blow a gasket and I've got a living will -- no resuscitation. Damn that was close -- maybe if I go back to that thread with one eye shut I'll just get the chest pains. That girl is knock dead gorgeous -- Ouch, bad choice of words.

Couple of years back - my club entered me in speed steels for one of the Action Weekends. They told me it was pistol calibre carbine stuff ( I had never shot it before ) so I turned up with my .45lc winchester. The range staff told me it was .22 I was entered in. However, a chap there lent me his Ruger 10/22 and some ammo to use. So, off I pop and give it a go. I was there for fun and a free shoot courtesy of my club so was having fun rather than trying to be fast. Imagine my surprise when I came 2nd !! And I beat the guy who lent me his rifle |
|
Just got my squadding notice through: The McQueen, 200m(yd?) .303, SG Multi Target - Sat am SG T&P1 & BDMP (pump) - Sat pm GRCF T&P1 & Advancing Target - Sun am GRCF Multi Target & Phoenix A - Sun pm SGC SSR-15 for the McQueen, unless my variation comes through in time to pick up my .308 Tikka. |
Isn't there a gun etiquette that say's you shouldn't out shoot the owner with it?! That's just cruel! I hope he bought you a pint at least! |
Yeah, A few years ago, I lent my .260 to Mrs ACR26 to shoot the 1000yd snaps and McQueens in the PR Nationals. "I've never shot 1000yds before" she said. F**k me if she didn't go and win the match
|
Don't you go and start bringing all this full-boorishness into the Girly Gallery Thread........... |
I will when I finally get my hands on it. Variation's pending, rifle's with my friendly not-quite-local RFD. |
Only light rain for Saturday but the wind may be more of an issue, 17mph predicted. |
Well, I am all packed. Waterproofs too. Speedmaster in 6.8 spc for the "any rifle 200 yards" and the McQueen Schmidt Rubin for the "pre 1980 iron sights 200 yard" Benelli for the slug matches Will be on the 200 yard point most of the Saturday morning - feel free to say hello. And shotgun all Saturday afternoon if they can squeeze me in instead of Sunday. |
So that is why the Navy is selling their Gortex off? linky |
|
Well, managed to get all 6 comps done in one day and I am pooped !! A personal best in the McQueen. And not too shabby in the "pre 1980 military rifle" too. Light ammo not cycling my semi auto in one of the slug matches and a rear sight dropping off did not help much in the other two slug matches but I soldiered on................ And can now put a face to another face here - was nice to meet you Numpty. |

I had fun too. First attempt at the 1500 and I found that it's best to use the ample time they give you for most stages.....rather than fire too fast ![]() ..should have saved that for the Speed Steels which were fun as always ..my late entry to the McQueen was ok but I got a bit excited when I got 3 'v' bulls out of 5 sighters. Needless to say I peaked too early and had to settle for a single v, a bunch of 5's and a couple of 4's, still not too bad for a T4, milsurp and a Barn Door Shooter.. I also picked up the 2009 dates for all the stuff I try and shoot and found out that I am work compromised for evry one of them |
|
I love the McQueen - very exciting. Especially when the marker is using 5 sec away times and sneaks in a 10 sec one. Makes the heart race thinking its appeared and gone away without being noticed. And the half MOA bull is a challenge. Would love to shoot it at 25 power magnification but then I cannot see all the castle. Maybe one of those Zeiss / Hensoldt with the 24 power and 72mm objective might assist ? |

Yes, it's a particular favourite of mine too. I have been trying to devise a way of practising for it using a .22 bolt action rimmie on a 50m range with 10 suitably reduced targets on a target frame. Each target numbered and have someone randomly drawing the numbers, which can be duplicated or even triplicated, also timing the 'exposures'. Might work.............. |

...was nice to meet you Numpty. 'Twas nice to meet you too. - Glad you had a good time. My performance in the McQeen was nothing to write home about and I came last in the 200yd .303 with my Jungly. I didn't buy it for it's renowned accuracy though. Put in a PB on the Timed and Precision 1 slug match - good enough to take the win and picked up the gold for BDMP Embassy Cup too. (Pump class and only three entrants ).
On to the Girly Gallery rifle stuff and T&P 1 with my .44 Marlin saw a 298/300. Not bad for my first go at these events. My scores in the Multi-Target, Phoenix A and Advancing Target were nothing too amazing, but it would appear from the official results that I've been put in X class - sounds a bit harsh to me. Anyway, back to work know - only three hours 'till going home time. |

I got 1st place again in the "pre 1980 military rifle" though. See you at the next one ! |

Well some fun was had at the WNSC mini-rifle shoot That bad bugger Biddle has led me astray and now my Fastfire has migrated from atop the scope to the rear of the hanguard at a @ 40 degree offset..........................feels good but I'll have to re-zero the damn thing now. Still 'above bore' height is down from @4" to under 2" |

Well if it's any consolation WNSC mini-rifle comps, PSG comps etc. are open to all-comers. No requirement to be a mason or anything, and they are not held or run under the auspices of any other outside organisation. If some people are emotionally scarred due to their experiences with other bodies they should seek help, or suck it up and get on with their life.......... |
