Who here hasn't voted yet, and why not? You have had all week. Don't wait to the last minute then let some last minute issue keep you from the polls. Go vote now! |
Yep, I vote against everyone that is an incumbent. |
Constitutional Amendment — To protect the traditions of fishing and hunting Text of ballot issue: Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that the tradition of fishing and hunting and the taking of fish and wildlife shall be preserved for the people and shall be managed by law and regulation for the public good? What it means to you: Amendment supporters say protection is needed to prevent future legislatures from outlawing the state's rural traditions as Georgia continues to urbanize. The amendment resulted, in part, when the state restricted the use of dogs when hunting deer. The amendment would not alter the state's ability to regulate hunting and fishing, which are legal in Georgia. A “yes” vote would mean any future attempts to do away with hunting and fishing might be more difficult. A “no” vote would leave current laws, rules and regulations in place. |
We started that last time around. Makes it easier to watch two munchkins w/ two people standing in line. We're planning to go around 10:30, so I hope the lines are thinned out by then. I suspect the crowds won't be too bad since this is a mid-term. Mrs. Monk, thanks for the link!! |

Yep. My SonnyDo List: 1. Use absentee ballot card sent by Sonny Perdue to vote for Mark Taylor - check! 2. Laugh at the irony of Sonny allowing me to easily vote against him, since I'm going to be out of town on voting day - check! Let's see... my wife teaches 1st grade but has to deal with tight school spending thanks to Sonny's reduction of public school budget. He DID give each teacher a Visa gift card for supplies this year with his NAME printed on it so they'd be sure to remember him on polling day, however. My mom DID work in a dean's office (for 11 years) until the U. Sys of GA budget was slashed by Sonny, so her position was eliminated, and she had to fire a dozen of her extended-campus employees as well. I'm trying to get a university teaching job right now, but there practically are none because they can barely afford to keep their current teaching staff thanks to Sonny's lack of desire to fund our university system. The moron cut school/university spending but took the time to make millions for himself while everyone else was getting fired from budget cuts. Like I would vote for him again! You'd have to not give even half a crap about education to vote for Sonny. I made SURE I voted this time and so did the rest of my family. Heck, I was going to vote against him for lying about getting us the old state flag back just to get elected, even before he screwed my entire family over. |
I have preached that rational for years, but I can't do it anymore. I want a real choice! Not the lesser of two thieves. This country needs a "revival" in good old fashioned values, common sense, decency, and backbone. I just hope it happens sooner, rather than later. Accountant |
Big +1 to that! |

I have grown weary of the overall 55-60% total tax burden we are now paying. "Tax" money isn't bottomless, and publicly funded institutions need to understand that. There would be plenty of money for "education" if we went to performance based pay (like every private industry on the planet) instead of the entitlement based pay system we now have. Sonny is running things like a business, and (much to the chagrin of some) nat'l test scores have improved measurably over what was produced by previous administrations. Change hurts, but some of it is necessary. |
This is how they operate schools overseas in many places. The money is assigned to the student instead of the school. If the school sucks it will close down because the students will go elsewhere. The amount of money spent per student is less, the teachers are paid more, and the test scores are higher. Because of the teachers unions I don't see this ever happening here. |
I guess you mean high school test scores? Georgia DID jump from 50th in the nation to 46th in SAT scores. However, my wife has seen no improvement in elementary school CRCT scores (in fact, they've decreased for her school). If by "running things like a business" you mean making sure he gets his bonuses like a CEO while cutting everything else, I agree. Many teachers' insurance premiums went up by more than the lousy 2% raise they got, so they actually bring home LESS money. He made sure he gave them a $100 gift card with his name on it this year (only this election year), though, so the ones with bad memories would still like him. Public schools ARE entitled to funding - that's why they are "public" schools. All the teachers I know TRY to improve scores and excel in test scores (perfomance), but your class' performance is based largely on how smart your batch of kids are and how much parents can help reinforce learning at home. Performance-based pay would only penalize the areas that perform poorly, like inner cities or poor rural areas that have already lower test scores, and no teachers would hire on to teach those areas. Change IS necessary, but Sonny could have cut something other than our educational system. There's plenty of money going into welfare for illegals that could have been cut, for example. ETA: Performance-based pay as proposed for America isn't like overseas. The students still have to go to their local school (plus many can only get to school by bus, and the busses only run to the local school), but the teachers are penalized for having kids with poor test scores in the proposed system. End result - think the kids in a poor area aren't going to perform well and you'll lose pay? Don't sign a contract at the poor school. |

Good debate for sure. The point is to exercise your right to vote. Participate in the process. Tell these politicians just what you think of them with your vote. Lesser of two evils sucks. I'm starting to think they should have a "None of the Above" choice to really send a message. Mark |
For real. It seems nice people don't get into politics, and if they do, they get corrupted fast enough to make it seem they weren't nice in the first place. The thing that irks me the most is when they lie to get in office, THEN do whatever they want and forget they even lied in the first place. I guess that's why I'm so anti-Sonny. Sorry, I just realized I had been going on about Sonny and forgot thast this wasn't a venting thread - looking back the OP's text, I got way off track. |
For sure. Also, call and write to your elected official personally. They are more receptive before elections than after, unfortunately. IMHO the only way to rid ourselves of professional politicians is to demand and enact strict term limits, 1 TERM ONLY! for all offices from the lowest to the highest. |
I just realized that there is a Libertarian running in almost every state office. I think I will go cast my Libertarian "protest votes" tomorrow. Accountant |
Hear hear! I know alot of people at work who helped run the campaign (or lack there of due to $$$$) for the libertarians. I was going to finish up my research last night but my interweb died and I couldnt. Its gotta be the vast left wing conspiricy to deprive me of my research tools to be an informed voter |

Went in a 1145, out in about 10 minutes. There was a woman (most likely dummycrat based on the BS she was spouting) on TV saying that the machine changed her vote. Let's see, I made my selections, it gave me a summary. I had a choice to go back and change votes or accept what was showing. Once I accepted it, it ejected my card and did not show me my votes again. Sounds like the dummycrats are already setting up the "they stole the vote" bullshit again. |

1405, no one but a few old folks there 70+ pretty sad and one lib spouting off some anti Iraq/AFG shit outside. Took me about 15 mins. She wasn't there when I came out so who knows. But the smell in the place was worse than the gas house uggggggg. even old Wolf ammo smelled better than that "perfume". Ordered 4 cases of Guat = Check Voted = Check Got Beer= Check & Done for the day. Wolf |

By the way, I just got wrongly chastised for voting Demoncrat in this election because I said I voted for Mark Taylor in this thread. For the record: I DID vote for my Republican congressman, as I historically always have. We've had a Democratic governor for all of the past 130 years except this last term. I fail to see how Mark Taylor is going to take away our guns (especially since he appears to have lost). Oh well... I guess Sonny gets to cut my wife's paycheck again and undercut funding for education for a few more years and get more university system workers laid off, all while passing retroactive tax cuts and making million-dollar land deals for himself using his office. The people have spoken (at least those who vote have). ETA: Results: www.sos.state.ga.us/elections/election_results/2006_1107/swall.htm Almost 5 million registered voters, and only 2 million voted. That is weak. The 40% voter turnout is typical, but it seems people would give a crap about their lawmakers and judges, doesn't it? |
Where do you think that ~19% who voted "No" live? I bet it would be interesting to see a map of the no votes. Probably centered in metro areas. At least it passed, I guess, but nobody really explained what it was for. Was someone trying to outlaw hunting or fishing? |

I asked the same thing on page one. I never heard anything about it till a buddy of mine called asking about it "after" he voted. Here's the what it means. Brought to you by Robpiat "Constitutional Amendment — To protect the traditions of fishing and hunting Text of ballot issue: Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that the tradition of fishing and hunting and the taking of fish and wildlife shall be preserved for the people and shall be managed by law and regulation for the public good?
