Ok, this may sound like a dumb one so here goes. I recently aquired a pistol through a FTF deal. Is the gun legal or is there something that I have to do on my part to register it. The pistol that I aquired is my night stand pistol. If someone breaks in and i use it would I get into hot water. Thanks, Texmex |
Looks like if he is asking if he is legal in having a non-registered gun. He didn't ask if FTF sales were legal. |

Just an opinion here...If it is a righteous SD shooting in your home, I seriously doubt the TX cops are going to worry with whether a yellow form was filled out at the time of the transaction. The gun would probably be siezed as evidence and they will run the serial number run to see if it was stolen. Having a stolen gun in your possession is never a good thing. You may want to check with your local PD to ensure it is clean before making it a "nightstand" gun. |
No. There are no federal or state requirements of gun registration.
You will not be in trouble just for having the pistol. If you get in trouble legally, it will have nothing to do with ownership but how and why it was used. |

Thanks for everyones input it is greatly appreciated. It was just a question that had been on my mind since I made the trade. My wife is home alone quite a bit and I was just making sure for her sake. I wouldn't want her to think twice before dusting off an intruder Thanks, Texmex |
