A few days ago I snuck into a hide site several miles up a gorge by myself in the late afternoon, I laid low behind sage and sticks I had piled up infront of me and waited near the bait site for about 5 hours. This Black bear Boar came in and I took him with my SR-25 at about 125 yards across a small gorge. I placed my shot perfectly, it was a heart lung shot and he expired in under a minute and didnt really suffer.
I used a KAC SR-25 EMC a Leupold MK-4 and a Federal Bonded 165 grn .308 I had heard doubts from folks about the effectiveness of a .308 on a bear but i would argue that inside of 300 yards if you place your shot right you would be just fine. The bear measured 6'11" and weighted over 350 lbs and from what the outfitter says its a serious trophy bear for that area. On another High note my Buddy took a 7' Black bear about 10 miles away the exact same night. Also Kyle Lamb was there and hes good for a laugh every now and then. |

, that's an odd looking black bear, especially with that massive head , those excavators, not to mention the knot on the shoulder, kind of off color for snoozing all winter.
