So I'm a fourth generation Texan about to be displaced to Washington. Just wanted to get a feel for areas around Seattle that might be more conservative and gun friendly than others. Also I guess I need to be more north/east as I'll be working in the Redmond area. Any suggestions on areas that cost only an arm and not both that and a leg? |

Duvall, reasable priced houses, plus the commute into Redmond would be easy with backroads. However, not much to do there if you are younger and single. And you would be a subject of King County. Nope married with kids but please explain the "subject of King County" thing... that sounds like something a Texan might want to avoid. Hard time being anyone's subject. |

Quoted: Blue today and blue then ![]() Yeah having made that drive at rush hour before... and only from SeaTac I'm thinking not right in the head would be correct... If you leave for work at 5am then leave for home at 2pm, it's not bad at all. Plus cheaper living. <-Not right in the head ETA: 'Round here we call it the "Softdrink Factory" |

Ehh, it's not as bad as I made it sound.. However, King County is the heart of most of the problems with Washington. To liberal, although, the east side of Lake Washington (Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, and their outlined areas) are much more conservative then the Seattle side of the lake. King County TYPICALLY has higher sales tax and higher property taxes because their elected D's just love pumping everything they can into a added tax of some form. Duvall and Issaquah are two places my wife has looked into us moving to (when we can actually sell our place). Decent house prices, good schooling (for the children’s sake!), and rural, but not so far out that it becomes an all day even to get into the City. You migh also want to look into Bothell or Woodinville (on the Snohomish County side). Woodinville to Redmond isn't bad if you learn the back roads, but Bothell to Redmond could be a real bitch during rush hour. Is this a long term move or a temp thing? |
Yeah I burn stuff down every place I go.
Love FALs sold them all at the moment, didn't love them for more than I could sell them for over the last few months... Still plenty of non-FALs in the stable... BBQ, that sounds good... least I know what's for dinner tonight. As for temp or long term. Eh, hard to say longer than temp, least a year or two... |

Welcome, also consider: Tolt Hill area, Carnation, Fall City, Woodinville. You can fuggedaboutit for Sammamish as rush hour commute is about 45 minutes now, though off peak it should be about 20 mins. In case you want to look eastwards: Snoqualmie on I-90, about 30 mins to Sammamish campus, but about 45 to Redmond. Yeah bring that Texan BBQ and all your recipes, I've worked with a certain PC company in TX, tasted the BBQ and nothing else quite compares since. I managed to make my own version of Dillo dust even though WAHTF at the moment isn't quite ... uh ... diplomatic about a certain company that ships their packages with a bottle opener. |

What color will your badge be? I know a Redmond employee that commutes from the Tacoma area every day, but he's not quite right in the head (1hr minimum each way). I know another one that is beyond "not quite right" (2.5 minimum each way, when I the crazy nutjob decide to show at the office). That doesn't take the cake though, we have an individual on our team from Campbell River, BC. |

Another Texan on my way to Seattle here. Never visited, but this place sounds alright so far! Kewl beans, twice the chance for good Texas BBQ! Sadly, I can't grill for shit. I've been known to bring beer, though, and that's gotta count for something. |

I'm currently considering being more not right in the head by moving across the bridge... Ferries are better as I get to count the ride as 'work' time. Sometimes I am even productive during the trip. Our team may get relocated to the Bravern complex soon though. Hopefully, for me, that will complete the process of becoming a virtual employee and I only have to come in once a month of so. |

Quoted: You might want to check out Maple Valley, there are alot of 'blue-badgers' migrating from Redmond area to there. Carpooling would be ideal. Don't forget about those "Connector" buses, they have WiFi onboard if you want to work the commute. But mostly, if you have a long commute you can snooze an extra 40-45 minutes while snoring and/or drooling on your row mate/window Beats getting jammed driving in traffic jam. |
