Anyone familiar with Green Bay or Appleton and surrounding area?

My daughter is relocating there and wondering what areas to consider for apartment/room rentals.  What areas to avoid.  Needs to be <30 min from GRB airport if possible.

I'd look at De Pere, Howard, or Suamico.  Most of the Appleton area is going to be a little over 30 minutes from GRB airport.  I'd avoid living in the City of Green Bay.  It's not bad, but some areas are a little sketchy.  Most of the surrounding communities are nicer.  If she wants to be more rural, she could look for an apartment in Freedom or Seymour.

She should avoid the west side of town as most of the bad things seem to happen there.
(I'm originally from the east side but haven't lived in GB for 25 years)  Just look around at the condition of the
houses/apartments in whatever area is being considered. If it looks trashy, it probably has trashy neighbors and you may want to stay out.
It was also a good idea to stay out of the downtown area, but that may have changed.

The city is not what it once was.

I should also mention that there's a major road construction project on Hwy 41 between Appleton and GB for the next several years.  Avoiding that by sticking closer to GB would help with her commute, assuming that she's working at GRB airport.

I lived most of my life near Appleton and am now outside of GB.  Overall, I think Appleton is a little nicer city, but the area surrounding GB is nice.  She'll quickly learn to stay the hell away from Oneida St. anytime there's a Packer's home game.

Thanks guys.  That's some good info to get us started.

We drove through that 1 lane construction N of Appleton last night.  They were were still working at 9 pm.   What a mess.

A tip a Spotted Cow your direction for the help!

I'd recommend north of hwy 29 and staying away from the river unless she wants to be down by de pere.

Found a nice little place in De Pere.  What a neat little town!  Thanks for the advice, y'all.
