Went out of Port Everglades last night hoping to catch a few yellowtails for Sunday dinner .

We started off the night minutes from the dock with no gps depth finder. Some kind of power issue.
I broke out the handheld to salvage the night and away we go.

We got to the Barracuda balls around 9. Caught a dozen or so ballyhoo in the net  then were covered up in leatherjackets.
Did manage one 15 in school master while trying to sabiki pilchards.

While my buddy tried effortlessly to sabiki the pilchards i stuck my head under the console to see if i could fix the gpsfinder.
Found a corroded power line. Spliced it with a temporary twist and now we can see bottom.
This small bit of jerry rigging ended up being the key to the trip.

Headed out to the third reef to look for the tell tale Christmas trees. Found several within minutes.
Had i not fixed the bottom finder we would have literally been fishing blind.

Set the anchor and set off to gear up. I dropped the first bait straight down. I started rigging for yellowtails.
Bam fish on the down line.  After a few minutes a 5lb mangrove hit the deck.
Now my buddy is clamoring to finish gearing up to drop down. Within seconds of the lead hitting bottom he is on.
A 3lber hits the deck. We found em.

We tried flat lining for tails but the grovers would not let that happen. I brought another 5lber on the deck.
This time on my 12lb mono yellowtail rod. Every bait we put down or out was clobbered.

We caught our limit and headed in. Been a long time since I've caught that many snapper off Lauderdale much less humongous grovers.

I'll get some pics today when we go to clean them.

Oh and my FHT spikes lowers are delivered to my ffl.

Sounds like a good time. If it was too easy it would not have

been as enjoyable.

Just getting out anymore is awesome.
I have a 2yo daughter at home and getting time to do the things I love to do has moved to second, third, or even fourth fiddle.
Fixing an issue with wiring that my buddy should know how to do is icing on the cake.
Catching a limit of spawner grovers is the cherry on top.

I tried to put the original post in google translate but they don't support "fisherman's lingo" as a language.

LOL

I hope to learn it in a couple years.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't decipher the OP's post!

My salt water fishing experience is limited to a deep sea charter off the coast of NH when I was 10 years old.

cliff notes -
caught bait
fixed GPS/Sonar combo unit
Anchored on a reef with good fish marks on the newly fixed sonar
proceeded to catch the crap out of larger than normal mangrove/grey snapper

It was so much sexier in the original tongue.

I look forward to learning how to spit that fishin' lingo out.
