URGENT Senator Frosh Tips His Hand on Assault Weapon Ban Committee Chairman Brian Frosh has clearly indicated his intent by scheduling an early hearing on SB 116 Assault Weapons Criminal Penalty Enhancement Act of 2005. By not waiting to hear this bill with the other bills and giving less than a week’s notice, Senator Brian Frosh, a co-sponsor of SB 116 has revealed his strategy: 1. Schedule a hearing early to give the sponsors as much time to maneuver as possible. 2. Schedule a hearing on short notice in the hope that opponents will be caught off guard. 3. Schedule only 1 bill for a hearing in the hope that opponents will be discouraged from mounting the level of attendance normally seen on “gun bill day.” 4. Last but not least, keep the event low key and pretend that SB 116 is a crime bill and not a ban on so-called assault weapons. Do not be deceived! SB 116 is a Trojan Horse! SB 116 is really a camouflaged version of last year’s GUN BAN. Hearing: Date: Wednesday, February 16th, 2005 Time: 1:00 PM Place: Senate Judicial Proceedings Hearing Room - Miller Senate Office Building Allow sufficient time to pass through security. If you are planning to attend the hearing, please post here, I'll forward the info the man planning the attack (John Josselyn of the AGC). UPDATED 11-Feb @ 15:55 Notes from John J:. No cammies, pen knives, nail clippers etc. Coat and tie for the guys, dresses, skirts or dress slacks for the gals. Contact Forest if you need a Map. |
Towson to Annapolis is about an 1 hour to an hour and 15 min. |

At last year's hearing, they had some other bills that they did first (non-gun). Then the gun banners filed in (all 15 of them), testified for the first hour, then left. Then the scheduled pro-gun people got to talk for about an hour. Then the signed-in pro gun people got to talk. First 2-3 minutes each, then 2 minutes, then 1 minute per person. I left at like 6:30 and there were still a bunch of people left to talk. I got there at like 9:30 to put my name on the list to testify, and I was something like 50th. Even if you don't get to testify, we need a presence there- over 200 last year. |

damnit....accidentally hit new post instead of reply....but in the interest of keeping this thread going I'll put my post here to: adding that I will be there....I won't be testifying because my brain is too scrambled from 2 weeks of 20 hour days.....but I'm kicking out of work a half day and I will be exercising my full 6'7" of height with my red "Gun Owner" sticker on. I'll let the more articulate of our folks have my 2 minutes of time in front of the committee vote_republican is right.......we NEED you there, even if you don't want to testify. We outnumbered the antis by more than 10 to 1 last year. Write your legislators and tell them that you are sick of having to take days off every year to fight these stupid bills. Write the Sun, the Gazette, the Post, the Capitol and tell them that gun laws are ony hurting law-abiding citizens and do nothing to stop crime. oh....and Who is Gail Gunn and why does she live with Leah Barrett's husband? |

Just to keep this thread active.....be there, dressed nicely, come in quietly, get your "gun owner" sticker from one of the guys (or gals), stare down the Gail Gunn creature and watch her implode when she doesn't get her way For you folks testifying: Go for it! Thanks for representing us! |

Here's an after action that I wrote over at The High Road.....there's a pretty good thread under Legal and Political if you want to see the whole thing...... We (Me, Spot77, and the "Admiral" ...my wife) got to the Miller Senate Building around 11:30am today and pressed the flesh with all of the other folks there to resist this crap. Then we got into the hearing room around 12:40pm......the hearings started at 1:03pm. Senator Frosh did his darndest to make us give up by dragging the presentation of the bill out as long as possible.....around 4pm if I recall. Lil' Rob Garagiola presented the bill and tried to go on the offensive by trying to emphasize that this was a "crime bill" that, as K-Romulus said, would bring assault weapons into alignment with current law regarding handguns and assault pistols. He made a point of saying that this would not be anti-gun, would not hurt gun owners, blah, blah, blah.... The Gail Gunn creature did not show up, probably because by this point in the day the word was going around that the bill was DOA and would not be leaving committee. Therefore it wasn't worth her precious paid time..... Frosh bailed out early and left the hearing in the hands of another Senator. Two people came out in support of the bill....yes, that's right two! The Sheriff of Montgomery County came to support the bill outlining that it was a good crime bill (which it is if taken solely at face value...which we know it is not). However, he may have made the most telling comment of the day......that he was out in the lobby and listening to conversations and discovered, "These people sitting behind me (that would be us) don't have a problem with anti-crime bills, but they have a distrust of the government and don't believe that this bill is what it says it is" We elected to just stand up and register our opposition so that some of the more experienced of our forces could have an opportunity to speak up. Lil' Rob and Jennie Foresk....I mean Forehand looked like they had been kicked in the stomach.......we got them good on this round. Oh....and in honor of our escaping to fight another day.....I stopped by the new gun store in Annapolis and bought an FAL. Imbel receiver built up with an STG58A parts kit. Here's to you Gail Gunn! |

Be there for round 2 on March 9th at 1pm. This is "gun day" and the real AWB is coming down the pike along with the CCW Bill. The AWB has enough sponsors to constitute a pass in the house if allowed to go through committee......our best hope is to make a good showing so that Vallerio will not allow a vote on the bill. If he knows that the senate JPR will not pass it, he won't want to waste time on it. Please be there and bring as many folks as you can! |
