I went shooting last night at Bullseys Marksman in Cumming, GA. When I showed up there, there were two guys occupying the rifle ranges, so I was waiting my turn.
I looked up on the monitors and saw that they were dressed head to toe in camoflauge clothing and were each wearing inexpensive airsoft quality tactical vests with at least eight rifle magazines, 2-4 pistol magazines, and shotgun ammo hanging off of them. These guys were both overweight and the sides of the vests were 4-5 inches from coming together due to all the "tactical padding". The funny thing is, even after they finished shooting, they wore their vests out of the gun range, and got into their car without taking them off. Then drove away... I don't see too many people wearing load bearing vests at indoor gun ranges, but these two looked like fools. Anyone else see people like this in your gun ranges? Who drives around dressed like that other than on halloween? |

I am NOT that over weight thank you! I can button them if I wanted to, it's just too hot to keep them closed right now. and I like the way they make me feel more secure in the car. now mind your own business!
If I didnt know that you weighed a buck o' five in full kit, I would have thought you were serious. |
| I was at the gun show in Columbia SC yesterday and some guy who sounds a lot like these two was talking to the guys who were running a tactical booth with AR's and supplies, and he told the same obnoxious range story no less than 3 times in 10 minutes to each guy behind the booth and finally I just had to walk off. I couldnt take it anymore. |
If it makes it more enjoyable for them, who cares. I used to wear black suits and dark sunglasses to go see Men in Black in the theaters. Went to see Snakes on a Plane at the midnight showing. Some guys up front were throwing rubber snakes around. I don't see that harm. I'm still looking for a good Arab costume to wear to a three gun shoot at creekside.![]() Let me guess all the military guys were dead serious their ENTIRE deployment? Can't be an operator unless you have plastic surgery to remove the ability to smile? |
If they like to wear the vests while shooting, then whatever, I am cool with that. But wearing it in the car while driving? That is a little strange. If they get pulled over, while not illegal to be wearing, the police officer would be like... WTF? And call for backup and want to search the car.
To each their own I guess. |

| The guys FRO is talking about are some of the safest shooters ever to come out. They are super nice, very safe and can out shoot 90% of the people on this forum. They keep to themselves and are respectable of peoples property. Wish everyone that came out acted like they did. |

Seriously guys, if you're too terrified to come to a range then why buy the guns and shit anyway? |

Heres something about the whole "airsoft" thing- what does it matter if the gear is low quality airsoft vs/ High end Paraclete or Crye armor if it doesn't really get used and only gets worn at the indoor range once a month?
What I'm getting at is no matter what shooting level you are there is always at least one level shooter you're above and one level shooter that you're below. No one here is the top of the food chain...... |

I stopped giving a damn about a guys weight when I discovered two important things.
#1 only women should pick on other women about their weight. #2 weight is no indicator of shooting skills or inability to pass your skinny ass on a running pisol course Now if they are big guys shooting hipoint pistols its all fair game |

Quoted: Every once in awhile I wear some junk while shooting...but it ain't airsoft and I don't wear it out to the car or anything. I don't care if you do but dang....I'm trying to get that stuff off as soon as I don't need it. I've been known to wear a drop leg with spare mags on the other leg but only to practice 2gun with changeovers between AR - 1911. Gotta practice sometime. |

Please don't forget the #1 Golden Range Rule,
It's not how good you shoot, but rather, how good you look shooting" and "Remember, you can't miss fast enough to Win" now if you can keep those 2 in mind, you'll be a Range star and everyone will let you paste their targets since yours won't need pasters. |

I give those commandos credit for going to the range. It is more than a lot of "shooters" I know do these days. Good for them. For the rest of you, you DID go shoot with friends this past weekend, right? I mean you did train a little, didn't you? Mark nope, some of our friends have private ranges and never invite us any more... |

A friend of mine hosted a small group this weekend and we had a great time. It is very nice having access to any private property. I don't ever worry about safety because I know everyone is someone I 100% trust. And I can wear my camo without being made fun of. |

I have a little private spot as well with a locked gate about 5 minutes from the shop. I tuned up the shotgun for the match I shot this past Saturday and helped a buddy sight in his Noveske [That someone pawned and lost with an Aimpoint M-4 that was about 100 clicks off from 0]. During DST I get a lot more shooting in. It sucks because it's hot as shit, but better than when Standard time starts over again and it gets dark an hour before we close. |
| I wear my boxers to the range now....Well the neighbors range next door. I wish our street had traffic to see the 200# cigar smoking AR wielding hansome man in boxers. Now I am going to add the tacticool vest to give myself the air of, bad mofo, in his drawers. |

And we also took some time off to train our bodies as well. |

On Sunday night I did wax the neighborhood-rats in night time airsoft. I was rocking a Archangel M4 SBR w/ my M3 & MAGPUL AFG. It was a bit goofy but it has a similar feel as my AR w/ out the mag changes every 30 rounds. 7mm |

Ooooo...I am *IN* for Haji-day at creekside Doug! I'll bring the AK and can show off my limited knowledge of Arabic curse words and insults. Can use the CZ52 for a handgun. I'll need to buy a totally flubbered shotty from Derek, maybe that one in the bin with the electrical tape all over it...that thing still there Derek? Isn't the dress just: -inappropriate and worn leather shoes -black socks -jeans that are not long enough -1980's sports team T-shirt -rag on head -aviator sunglasses ??? |

Chest rigs, Thigh Rigs, Tac Vests etc are all great additions, if you train as you fight. Most people in their homes and vehicles will not be the Tactical God that they portray at the range. Most of us, me included (at home) will grab the bedside gun and engage the threat. Most bad guys wont wait for you to throw on a plate carrier and get everything just right. As we all know tacticool is much more important than function to many here.
My theory is do what makes you feel best about yourself, and when the tactics/equipment fail you there is only one person to blame. |
