Time to get a new one....old one currently sits in the master's bedroom closet.  So here's the question:  What location in the house do you keep your safe and why?

I keep mine in the middle of my unlocked house in the living room.  My secret combination is: 14-39-00.

beware of dogs and owners with 00 buck in the chamber 8-)

... seriously though, put it in a closet if it fits, maybe in a spare room/office.    Bolted to the floor....

I know a couple people who have really nice looking safes in their home offices as furniture and it really looks nice/cool.

Putting it back to back with a bearing wall  and in a corner is not a bad idea.  This would make it just that much harder for the low lifes to get at it and pry the door open or cut it open  Nothing will stop a pro but  if you can slow them down enough  they will take a pass.

May not want to disclose where you keep a safe in your house.

Mine is about five inches away from an exterior wall of the house, in a corner of the spare room.  I figure it'd be cooler in event of a fire, and it will prevent someone from accessing the rear of it.  Only the face and left side are exposed.  I don't mind sharing where the safe is in the house, you'd find it in a second anyway if you were a burglar.   Getting past the claymores and buckshot may be trickier though.

All I know is that if someone breaks into my house, finds my safe, and is somehow able to open it.... They're going to be pissed they wasted so much time!

Reason I was asking is that I know people have it right smack in the middle of the living room like a furniture, kinda hard to access if something goes bump in the night and you're in you're bedroom eventhough you may have a secondary on your night stand.  The other thing I hear is due to FL weather, people have their safes were room temp doesn't fluctuate?  I've always kept mine in my bedroom closet but was just curious what you guys use as factors in determining where to place a safe. The other thing that was mentioned is fire....I know some safes are fire "resistent" up to an x amount of time....do you wait and let it burn or do you grab what you can?  Just curious....

IMHO, if I have time, I'm going to be grabbing everything I can (personal items first, those cant be replaced) and throwing them out the windows.

I have both a golden rod and a desiccant in my safe to help with humidity.  I'd also use oxygen scavenger packs if I had them.

I'm not worried about my safe if something "goes bump in the night".   35rounds (17+1, 17) of +p+ 9mm and 6 rounds of 4-buck should do the trick.

I think if you have a safe, you should have a security system, you can get some cheap, even if it isn't linked to a call center.  It could deter a theft and is worth the added piece of mind.

I keep mine in my bedroom right next to my bed for easy access, and displayed nicely, and my safe is bolted to the floor
