Can anybody recommend a good place to buy a gun safe in the Bryan/College Station or Houston area?  I know Academy, Gander steal you blind Mountain, and Burdett and Sons sells them but I'm not sure on price there.  Is there anywhere cheaper in the Houston area?  Is there anywhere that you've had a good experience with online?  I can't justify much over a grand for one but I don't want a $75 dollar Academy special you can open with a can opener.  I would like one that will hold 10-15 guns and still have some room for Ammo.

Thanks.

Oh and I'm not against driving to get it either...IE Austin and SA areas are OK to suggest.

Thanks

The last time I was in Carters country off I-10 it seemed like they had some decent safes for not too bad of a price(which just seems odd for Carter's country). But don't take my word for it, I haven't been checking prices even though I need to buy a safe in a bad way.

By the way where are you located? Seems like you live in the county like me and shop the same "big citys" I do.

nobody has anything besides CARTERS!

I went to Academy...699 for a 30min fire safe that holds 20?

I also went to gander mountain...yeah right..NOTHING UNDER A GRAND!

Maybe it should be Grand Mountain...Notice how they carry almost any other brand so they never have the exact product so they NEVER have to match prices?

ETA:  i am actually in B/CS...graduated college and never left.  Wife and I both found jobs here and good schools = good place to raise kiddos... I was raised in a little town called Todd Mission..about 10 miles outside of Magnolia, TX..went to HS in Navasota, TX.

Well as Sportsmans Warehouse is now going out of business in Round Rock and San Antonio, you could try them as they have up to 30% off on certain items.  Although when I was looking at getting a gun cabinet awhile back, they were about $30 higher than anyone else on the model I was looking at.

As much as these things cost... I'd buy a welder and  build the shit myself. Hit the local scrap yard for some steel plates... come up with a secure locking mechanism, fill the walls with sand for firing proofing...  Then spray paint!

+1 for Lone Star Gun Safes.  It is on the North side of Houston.  I bought one right before Christmas and am very happy with the product and the delivery service.

There is also a safe/home security forum in the "Armory" Section.  There is lots of info there.

I got a Cannon TS6030 safe there, the one in CS, as well. Delivery was included... if a bit odd (one rather large guy carried it into the house, a few rooms at a time).

I am impressed with Cannon's customer service. They don't always answer the phone, but they always called back with good info.

I am highly fond of the Browning line of safes.  They are a good value for the money.  Its worth it to spend a few extra bucks and get one you wont grow out of within a few months.  The have an uncanny way of filling up to max capacity very fast.
