So I went to the Gun show this weekend, and I got to thinking about theft there.  I stood at one of the longer tables that spanned the entire width of the expo area, and only two people where working the table.  Both had their backs to me, and no body was paying attention.  I stood there for about 15 minutes until I was able to pay for the ammo I was chosen to buy.  But the entire time standing there, I was struck with the notion on how easy it would be to steal from these guys.  I felt bad because then I realized here is a business trying to do what we all do and make a little cash, and they have opened themselves up to THOUSANDS of dollars of theft simply by not having enough people working the booth.  I was just wondering about those on here, that attend and sell at shows, how is the theft rate at those things?  Is there a pretty high rate or is it fairly nominal with what you would hope is a lot of very honest people?

I just got to thinking about it, and wondered if there is any way to help circumvent theft at those shows.  I realize Guns going missing is probably few and far between, but small items like knives, ammo, and the like are very easily pocketable and walked off with.  Especially when the show is as busy as they are now and booths are absolutely jammed with shoppers.  The workers can't possibly keep eyes on everything.

I was thinking something similar when I went to the one in Pacific a few weeks back. While not nearly as crowded. still a lot of people and not many people to work the booths. I came to the conclusion that most of the people who are at gun shows buying stuff are law abiding and wouldn't steal stuff, and because it is so busy, there's very little chance SOMEONE wouldn't see a theft, even if it was another customer. I know I personally wouldn't have a problem saying something to someone I saw pocket something when the person who was working the table had his/her back turned. I would make sure I said it loud enough that other people (including the workers) heard as well.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking.  I hate thieves, and I just couldn't stop and think that it was a perfect environment for them.  The ammo I purchased was some Hornaday Zombie Max 20 rd.  Which very easily can slip right in my pocket.  I hate thieves, being a small business owner myself, I despise them.

I had a personal buck knife stolen off a table at the KC gun show that I left there with my paperwork stuff to cut open packs
Not super expensive but had it forever
There is an amount of theft that goes on that is not relayed to the public in hopes the guy thinks he got away with it
Last KCI show also know of a missing scope and a stripped lower

Alarms work well on guns but it is still hard to watch everything with the crowd

Stuff gets stolen at gunshows all the time.

When I was younger we never lost anything because we only had one table with a few items on it.

When I was older I worked for a gun shop that got 3 tables at a local show and we were robbed blind.

Fortunately it was all small ticket items that we just wanted to get rid of, but still.
