I'm a little out of the loop, so I just found out that the old Gun World (by O'hare) is getting ready to open back up in Lombard. I called over and they said they were still working to get everything finished. Anyone been over there to check it out? |
| Haven't driven by yet but here is their site with updates: Gun World |
|
I have been there to visit.
You are gonna like what you find over there, let me tell you! Also, they have a bus going to IGOLD, sign up at ISRA. http://IGOLD.isra.org |
| My dad used to shoot at the old Gun World range and he told some guy shot through the back wall with a rifle. I then heard the same story from a guy over at Midwest Sporting Goods. I'm kinda wondering what they really mean by "The ranges will handle any caliber firearm." I'm glad I'll have a nice close place to test some rifles at but. there has to be a limit in caliber size. |

The old gun world was a dump... I went there once and it was really a crappy looking place and the range was sub par for sure. I talked to some people that know the people opening this range and its supposed to be MUCH nicer than the old joint was.. the old place as behind some kind or restaruant and you went upstaris and shot above the place. MIke. |

It my limited travels to a few ranges, the "any caliber" can mean "upto and including 50cal." or "upto any caliber but 50cal.". I'm sure the plates are capabale, but who would want to stand next to a booth with that thing going off? I wouldn't . Would figure you would install 50cal capable backstops, but to in order to keep the life as long as possible, not subject it to that punishment. But I hope it opens soon....should be fun. Never been at a new range before. |

The new range is in progress, it will be 3 ranges with 24 stalls, a class room, and a virtual range. Range 1 is almost done and they are working on 2 and 3 right now. The store is not yet open as they need to wait for the ranges to be done before they can "move in"
All the ranges will be able to handle rifle calibers unlike the old place where it was designated to range 1 only. The whole place will be state of the art and VERY nice when its done. |
They said I could shoot whatever I had. Well I had a 7mm magnum.
