Hello all,

I have been looking at getting some night sights (TruGlo TFOs) for my Springfield XD. The only issue is that this pistol is notorious for having tough sights to remove. I have asked the local places (Clydes, Franklins, Firing Lane) and none of them have the actual tool to remove the sights, they were just going to punch them (at least the last time I asked, which was a while ago). Anyone know of a good gunsmith in the area who will put the sights on for a decent (25-30ish) price?

I bought a sight pusher on Ebay for 55 shipped and it has never failed. Its designed to adjust to any slide.

I'd say sell the XD and get a Glock. Sight tools for those are almost a dime a dozen...

Haha, I've thought about it, but the XD was my first firearm, and I don't want to get rid of it. Also, I shoot it a lot better than a Glock.

Yeah, contact TSG Outdoors they have the tools.  They Installed all my night sights.   My guess is these shops have the tool, but don't want to deal with the hassle of installing the sights.   Some can be a pain in the ass to push back in.

I shot an XDM 45 sub compact few weeks back, it was a good shooter.  However when I compared price to price and quality to quality I wouldn't trade my Glocks for a Springfield.   However, I would be interested to know what aspect of the XD you felt allows you to shoot it better than a Glock?    Is it something about one you prefer over the other?  I personally felt the XDM was just as shoot-able as my Glocks.    But, I understand SFA made quite a bit of changes when going from the XD to the XDM?  Was this based on customer feedback, or some other reason?

Well, the XD just fit my hand better. Also, as a new shooter (at the time I bought it, now I would be fine with a glock), I was a little nervous so the added grip safety was a nice feature. As far as the differences and reasons behind the XDm, I think they just wanted a pistol with increased accuracy for match shooters so a better barrel and trigger. I'm not real sure on what sparked the change.

Well, for anyone else that is interested. Clydes now has the proper tool to install sights for an XD. 10 bucks. Apparently they just filled some huge order for a PD and had to swap out sights on 300 or so XDs.

Just sout of Athens in Watkinsville is a little joint called the Shooter's Den... Tom's specialty is building precision bolt-action rifles from the action up... He has done work on my M14 and my 10/22. I would absolutely trust him with an XDm.

Sounds like I'll have to check out Accurate Ordnance too!
