Has anyone ever used their smith? Im thinking about getting an LEM trigger kit for my USP, and dont want to install it myself. How's their work, rates, and turn around?

One of the crabbiest guys I've ever met. Did not inspire any faith.

On the other hand, he has to deal with a lot of unrealistic requests and unreasonable people.

No excuse though.

I will never go back. I went there to have some work done on my AR 15. The work included installing a new rail system and gas block. I just moved so all my tools were packed away and I figured it'd be nice to drop off my rifle and just have it done for me. I picked it up 1.5 weeks later and the brought it home a noticed the hand guard i just bought was beat up, the barrel nut was not aligned right and they never tightened back down my flash hider. It was just loosely threaded on. The guy was unpleasant as can be when I called to tell him what I noticed. Never will do business there again!

Well, I know there was an HK armorer somewhere in NE IL a few years ago, but I don't remember where.  I wouldn't let any generic smith install it.

Your best bet would be to call HK or ask on the HKpro.com boards.  HK's in house price, and knowing it would be done right might be your best bet.

I think I might try myself. I did my own install of the DCAEK on my M&P45.

Here's what HK said:

$87.00 for the kit + $60 labor + $25-$45 return shipping. Turn around time
approximately 1-2 weeks.

There is a guide to a complete detail strip of the USP at that URL.   I've done it to mine at least a dozen times, and the USP isn't complicated, but some of those pictures are rough.  If you are going to do it yourself I suggest being comfortable doing a detail strip and where the parts all go before you start swapping out parts for the LEM module.

It wasn't a clicky link... just a URL.

Right. The links are broken at that site. Looks like they changed providers. Click on "Detailed Strip" and you'll see what I mean. I was able to manually navigate around by guessing what the new URLs were, but none of the images come up.

I know this will make some cringe, but have you asked at RGUNS in Carpentersville, if they would do this for a reasonable cost, in a reasonable time for you, maybe even while you wait?
The owner knows HK, and could probably install the trigger in the dark blindfolded......if he has the time; because they are a small operation, and have a lot of phone business taking up their time.

I've never had an issue at R-Guns. I didn't know the owner was an HK guy. I might have to give him a call.

During the 1990's, they were one of the only places in northern Illinois, that was a stocking HK dealer, and were willing to deal with HK's ("We know what you should stock, you don't, and by the way, it won't be available until we say it is") philosophy.  I think they finally gave up on HK, and their inconsistent availability of products.

Well that is strange...They all work for me, and I haven't been there in years, so the images aren't cached on my system.

If you are using google chrome or a newer browser that doesn't do backwards compatibility (like a smart phone) you could be having issues with the HTML on that website. The site is using absolutely ancient code from the stone age era of the internets.

That IS strange. I opened the page in IE and all of the images loaded.

Weird....
