I picked up a nice Rock Island 1911 in a trade around 4 months ago. I am wanting to change the sights on it. It has the factory GI sights which will not work for me. So a gunsmith told me he would change sights but after me ordering new sights from Brownells he won't do them. He told me he doesn't have the special tool for the front staked sight. So here I sit with new sights and no one to install them. Recomend me a gunsmith who could do this for me. I live in Columbia and would prefer someone around central Missouri. I am willing to ship it to a gunsmith if need be. The gun has already had trigger work and beavertail installed and I want to complete the gun. If I can't get this done I may just sell it as is but I'd rather keep it but the sights are just horrible. Let me know of gunsmiths around. Thanks for your help.

The Powder Horn gun shop on Rt B in Columbis has a gunsmith that comes by once a week and picks up guns, takes them back to his shop, and brings them back to the Powder Horn when they are done.   He should be able to take care of that for you.

Turn around with Powder Horn's gunsmith is long... Perkins Custom. Mexico, Mo. Jason Perkins phone number 573-581-2146. Jason is a Bianchi Cup\IPSC shooter. He was employed by Graf & Son for years and in fact is their in house gunsmith. Thats the reason he left Graf was to spend time with his pre-school son and pursue his gunsmith business. Hell of a nice guy. He's equipped with a digital scale mill and has a lathe. Can do most anything including hot tank weapons blue. Turnaround is fast and pricing reasonable. He also takes on specialty work from other gunsmiths.

ETA: When Jason stakes a front sight, it's there to stay.
