Does anybody here have any experience with these and if so what's to like and not like about them? I have read elswhere that some people have accuracy issues with them, but that could be more shooter related that the actual gun itself. Where would be the best place to find one in the tulsa area? Thanks...

I don't like the grip and feel of the USPs. I'm a little preferential to Sigs over any other semiauto handgun.
I let a guy shoot my 229 in 40 cal one time shooting plates. I shot his 40 USP and did fairly well. But he did better with my Sig 229 than he did with his own USP.
The next time I saw him was in Outdoor America several months later. I didn't recognize him but he came over and said hello. Then he told me he was buying a Sig 229.
See - I told you I was prejudiced toward Sigs!

price just seems a little steep to me for a polymer pistol....

but to each his own

it depends on what caliber you get on price  45 should be a little over 700
9 a little over 640

I heard that the sigs loose their color, or they wear pretty easily. Is that true or not? Besides sig and hk what other semi-auto pistol can be had for $500-600? I already have a springfield 4" xd9mm and I really like it and was thinking of getting the sub-compact 3" xd40 in Bi-tone. The only thing is, is that I don't want to have all of one certain brand, I want to mix it up a little.

The good ones....... Glock

I'm not a koolaid drinker...... but the finish is basically unmatched..... and they are reliable in everything but 40cal

my 21 has even digested a few led reloads and  i still have all my digits

Other than that it's 1911 time

I've got a few Sigs that have well over 15,000 rounds and still look pretty damn good.
All I've ever done is keep them clean and lubed, and change a recoil spring every once in awhile.
ACman is probably right about the Glocks. I've got two, both have been used with reloads. I've never had a problem with one.
I think everybody should shoot a Glock. The OKC PD issues Glock 22s. The cadets shoot so much in their academy, they are loath to go to another gun after their mandatory year of carrying the Glock is up.

My friend has a glock 17 9mm, I think that is what it is. I really don't care for glocks that much, they just don't seem to fit my hand the way I like a gun to feel. I think I might just have to try out the sig or hk before I can decide what to get. I've held the sig before but never fired it and I like the way it feels. Does the hk feel similar?

I suggest that you try to shoot the Sig 228 if get the chance, I shot my friends 228 and it is a very accurate pistol if you do your part.  I more like the USPs and 1911 due to their single action and the safety, I saw an used 228 with night sight for sale in EE for $450 shipped.

It would be easier if we knew what caliber and the intended purpose.  I owned a full size .45.  It was a nice pistol.  Very reliable, accurate, overall very well made.  The grip was on the large side but it was managable.  I liked the mag release style.  Mag changes become very fast once you get used to doing everything with your weak hand.

The biggest downside other then the price is it was a freakin' huge pistol.  Even the compact is enormous when compared to other compact pistols.  Unless you're a really large guy I don't think you're going to be able to effectively carry it concealed.

Ive got a stainless in 45 with MMC night sights and I really like it. If your looking for one in 40 I know where you can get a used one for $500 cash.

Here's mine

Thanks for all of your imput on this. After doing some calling around and a little more research I don't think I want to spend that much on a handgun right now. I am now looking more towards the S&W M&P .40 or maybe the S&W M&P 9mm compact. What's your opinions on those? Anybody have any experience with these??

look at the XD 9-40-45 acp/gap series, with a little shoping around you can find used ones at a decent price,

I've seen NIB service and compact models in the metro area priced from $450 to $525.

I'd stay away from S&W semiauto handguns. Some people have had great luck with them, but I ain't one of "em.

Have you used this paticular pistol? I have read on here that everyone really likes them and that they haven't had any issues with them. Plus they are more affordable than the HK or Sig. I have found them at $479 here in town. All the reviews and articles praise them pretty well also. What's bad about them?

I don't have any eperience with the smith m&p ...... but i did get a friend of mine a  sw9ve a while ago(because their cheap and he wanted cheap) ....  I would go someplace
where you can try the trigger pull on them i don't know if their the same as the mp or not....... but the pistol he got has about the worst trigger i've ever felt on any gun let alone a smith.  But he has shot the living hell out of it at least 3k from wwb to defensive loads and zero jams or malf's of any kind ......

Check out the CZ-75 and the other CZ model pistols.  By far my favorite pistol is a CZ-75 single action only that I picked up for a grand total of $270.  New ones run around $400-$425.  Typically very accurate, very reliable, and reasonably priced.  For whatever reason they've never been terribly popular or common in the US, but knowledgable sources tell me they're very widely used in the rest of the world (Europe, Middle East).

Only downside I see to CZ's is due to their all steel construction they tend to be heavier then most of their similarly sized counterparts.  However I had a very knowledgable firearms instructor point out to me that in the unlikely event my CZ ever jams, I will be able to seriously whack the hell out of someone with my all steel pistol using it as a club.  As a bludgeoning device CZ's got Glock and HK beat big time...

I can't remember for sure which vendor hear did the torture test to a bunch of pistols.............. IIRC it was bigbore? but i'm not sure thats right..... anyways the CZ was the closest thing to a glock in function(working no matter what he did to them).... I'm almost positive HK and Sig were in that test.........

Has anyone handled the Dan Wesson 1911's made by CZ...... I havent handled one but they damn  sure sound good and have lot's of extras for the money in a stainless pistol

Some novice shooters going through the LE program at OSU/OKC bought S&Ws. Two of them I know were taken back to the dealer. I was working with one girl and two guys to give them some experience shooting handguns. The S&Ws didn't work worth a damn, the Sig worked fine. I don't remember what model number they were.

Back in the mid 70s, I had a Model 39 S&W. It was accurate but very picky about the ammo you fed it. I traded it off for a Model 59 which was the biggest POS handgun I ever had. I've been down on S&Ws ever since.

And don't believe those friggin' articles in gun magazines. Most of 'em are BS to sell mags. I'd say you can take the NRA American Hunter or American Rifleman articles with a little more seriously, but not much.

Two handguns I recommend to anyone that needs a semiauto hicap centerfire handgun are the Glock 19 9mm and the Sig 229 40 S&W. And some of the newer Sigs are not worth a damn when it comes to quality control.

Rent the guns to shoot before you buy one. Then get the one you feel fits you the best and the one you shoot the best with.

I know some people that got the S&W sigma/walther 40s, I think those are what S&Ws basing the M&P off of, but I could be wrong,

if they are the same ones I'm thinking of, there was a wholesale place in shotgun news selling them in the last year or so for around 3bills,

I've shot several mags through three of the sigma/walther models, two 40s and a 9mil,

the 40s were later sigmas/walther models and had heavy triggers but were decently accurate,

the 9mil was an earlier sigma model, and was a jammo-matic, coulda been the mags, ammo or that it was new outta the box and needed breaking in,

with my limited handling I didn't really care for the feel of them,

then again I don't really care for the feel of the glocks either, but at least with the glock I've never seen one jam, and they have a hell of an aftermarket for parts,

if I were in your spot, I'd go with another XD, the mags on the 40-357sig-9mil models all interchange so theres no need for a bunch of different mags, or I'd buy a glock,

or if your dead set on a compact, I'd take a look and think real hard about the little khar 9 single stack.
