You have a choice of August 21st. or august 21st.

Food will be Steaks or Pulled pork. Plus some other yummy little surprises.

Cost will be $15 per person, or $20 per couple. I will buy all the meat, charcoal, spices, etc. Any left over $$ will go towards soda. I'll keep receipts, no worries. If anyone thinks that is too high or too low, let me know.

Just need a decent head count.

Will be looking for a couple of these. And some chairs. In case of rain or too hot and sunny. I doubt we need sides to the canopy, but whatever.

I'm actually trying some Angus chuck roasts on the smoker as we speak. Might be yummy too? No worries folks, I ALWAYS cook far too much food. If you go home hungry, it won't be for lack of tasty vittles.

I don't think that afternoon is going to work for me unless I can take that night off.

Will have to check.

Man was it good. Smoked whole chickens, spicy italian sausages and smoked angus roasts. Sliced potatoes and onions in foil and asparagus with sea salt.

I literally made enough for 15 or more people. LOTS of leftovers!

Celebrating my fathers 78th birthday today. Happy Birthday Dad.

I ended up at Cabela's having a venison brat.  Not even close.

There was a good turn out in Oshvegas a couple years ago, but the issue was that we were all seated and it was difficult to mingle about.

That's cool. I figured it might be too long away for some folks. Heck, it's too long for me! But one way or another I'll have a cookout that day. Two or three weeks before I will remind folks and get a definite head count.

Maybe we'll use a PayPal account for the money needed to do this? I always end up paying tons more than I ask for, you'll get more than what you pay for, that's for sure.

It looks like three people have some kind of canopy, which is good if it's too hot or too wet outside. I have a garage and of course inside. And I could sit maybe 30 people. But canopies will definitely help. And if someone wants to sell a nice one of those, I'm in the market.

Also looks like steak and pulled pork are all but a tie. We can work that out too. Maybe I'll make some kind of buffet? That might work.

Lots of folks have offered help, I'll probably take you up on it. I've cooked for as many as 250 people before, it's hard but do-able. And I had lot of help.

This should be quite easy.

Looking forward to meeting some new folks, and of course the usual gang.

Dan

@ FT: You know better than most that my business, even when I have something scheduled, can run quite long and require extra day or two.  When that extra day or two might be spent half-way around the country, it makes it hard to make social events, no matter if you want to show up or not.

ETA: I can confirm that None, Flamethrower, TommyTrauma, Drawcut, Glenn_R, BulletcatchR, Rogue1, Batch114, and Unique1 all have wonderful wives.  I still have the best wife in the world, what with putting up with my friends and midget porn addiction.

Last time my misses and yours got together they were glued at the hip and got plastered at the picnic. Mine talked non stop for the whole ride home and then had a hangover for about a day and a half. I'm a canopy connoisseur. We've seen lots of the come and go as pit shelters. I've seen the cheap ones broken and in the trash MANY times.

$60-80     EZ-UP brand        Low quality        Will buckle and collapse easily. Ends up in trash after a use or two.
$90-140   First-Up brand      Better quality     Works okay. Must use tethers on corners or it will buckle and collapse.
$200        EZ-UP brand        Pro Grade          Works awesome. Comes with good accessories. Heavy and bulky.

Sams has the professional ones for $200. These are what all vendors use for outdoor public event booths. They're head and shoulders above the cheap models in all respects except weight. Everything about it is beefier. Top is better quality. Grade 5 bolts in the pivots instead of plastic BS. Thicker metal parts. Smoother operation. Strong enough not to require guide lines.

The first-up models usually run $100 and you can add flimsy side panels to close it off for another $40. This is a crappy way to go. You'll be sorry you didn't spend the extra $60. If you get one with a team logo branded top they're more in the $140 range. Add in $40 side panels and you'll be REALLY sorry you didn't opt for the pro model for $20 more.

The $200 EZ-UP model comes with good side panels that have a zipper door on the back, plus an awning, banner pocket, real stakes, and big foot plate extensions it you want to weigh down the corners with sandbags or something, and have wheels on the bag/case. If you're going to use it with any regularity the $200 models are worth the extra money.

I never thought I'd use the banner pocket, but it comes in handy. If it was an arf event you could print off a bolt face logo, stuff the paper in the plastic pocket, and string it up so folks can congregate. Having a reunion picnic in a public park? Put the family name in there. That type of thing.
