Oh yeah, when you say "old gear" exactly what do you mean?

Got several  "removed from service"  analog alarm cellular transmitters. Keyword "analog" I think they are 3 watts.  Someone told me that "hams" can reprogram them and play some kind of "find the hidden transmitter"  games. Just wondered , other than the gold on circuit board if they have any value. We had to change them out to digital before Feb of last year.  They are switchable from the old A carrier-B carrier. Thanks

Go to the Outdoors/Ham Radio forum.  Post what you have, etc.  There's quite a few Hams there that could answer your question.

A "Fox Hunt" is the game of finding a hidden transmitter. Old school Geocacheing in a sense.

ArJedi is probably the defacto SME there as well.

I remember rabbit hunting with CB radios .......... pick a section of roads and neighborhoods ..... send someone out to hide .... then search for them depending on how strong a signal your CB recieved when they keyed up on the mic .... first one to find the rabbit usually had all the others buy them dinner or lunch.  The rabbit is the one that basically didnt get shit other than sitting in one spot hiding.
