Anyone living in hamilton county attempted to get a class 3? I am thinking about getting a suppressor but If I read the ATF paperwork I have to get the Sherif to sign off on it. So thats why I am asking if anyone had any luck with it.

You will never get a sheriff sign off in Hamilton or Butler Counties. Just do a trust.

They changed chiefs recently... the old chief was a no go.
Not certain on the current chiefs stance...

Keep us posted.  I've been meaning to go talk to him and feel him out.

I take it ypu have done class 3? If so this is going to be my first attempt will you help me out with the paper work if I decide to try it? and with ohio being a 30 rnd cap mag if I have class 3 does that mean I can go over the 30 rnd mag cap. LIke lets say I do 2 class 3's for my AR I want F/A ( 1 stamp ) snd suppresor ( second stamp ) getting the F/A stamp since I now own a machine gun, can  I load over 30 rounds like a 100 round drum? or buy a class 3 belt fed?

IIRC, class 3 makes the magazine restriction invalid.

so how much of a pain in the ass is it? Is it going to be more headaches then good? What about if I want to sell a suppresor, what does that take?

Its more of a jump through hoops and then wait.  Then wait.   Then wait thing.
As for selling... no idea... but there are at least two places local that could sell for you... I'd suggest talking to Chris over at One Shot in Newtown.  Target world says they handle class 3, but other than the angry old guy I dislike everyone behind the counter there.  Its worth the drive to New town IMHO.

I will never step foot in target world again. Worst place of buisness ive ever been too. I will check out the new town place. If I had the cash I would open a indoor shooting range where you could shoot anything you want if I had the $. Thats what I would do and I bet people would be flocking to that range.

If you need help with the paperwork just post up, there are many of us here that have done the nfa thing.

You won't be able to convert an AR into F/A but you can buy a M16 as long as its already in the system before '86

Its more of a taboo thing to those who haven't been through the process, but its not a pain at all. It can get a little tricky if you need to go the trust or corp route but its been done before so just ask for guidance.

A suppressor is a goofy thing. If you get one, you might as well consider it unsellable. If you want to sell it to an individual out of state, it takes two transfers totaling $400. Its usually more convienient to buy a new one and the seller won't be able to get much money out of it. The only time I have seen where it might be worth it is if you can do a private sale to a buyer in state, but they'd have to be aweful trusting as you'd have to take their money and hold onto both it and the suppressor until the paperwork cleared. Or use an escrow but that just adds more confusion.

For what its worth you can use 30+ round mags in any nfa weapon, so sbrs are good to go as well

Chris at OneShot (they have a new name now) is great if you can get a hold of him. He has been very busy over the last year or so getting the new building and range going. Last I heard its still under construction and way behind schedule due to all the rain we had last year.

Check out the nfa section under the armory listing as well. There is a bunch of good info to read over in the stickies.

I would also recommend One Shot in Newtown for purchasing a supressor. Chris is normally not in the store but Gail - the store manager is well versed in supressors, knows the process and will help you complete all the paper work. She can be a little .... 'blunt' at times (just as an FYI) but she's always treated me fair and I'm on my 3rd supressor from them.

Do you mean a little blunt or a lot of bitch?  Knowingly the knows her firearms, and she knows them well. But she definitely has an attitude problem. And even with their decent inventory, that has stopped me from dealing with them.

I might stay away from one shot then. I don't put up with piss poor customer service at all. I'm giving you my money be nice with a smile and good attitude look me in the eye and talk to my wallet and you will have my bis.

+1

But I have to say that I am not one who can afford to drop hundreds of thousands on machine guns and I have dealt with worse, I do miss Jason, he knew me by name when I walked in the door, and I only stopped in about once a month. Hopefully Chris will be more involved once the range is up and running, somehow I doubt it.

ETA: you might want to at least feel it out, because if you haven't been through the process they are very good at walking you through everything and they do have a nice selection.

I would recommend em highly for the SW Ohio area.

Create a trust.  It is an extra step the first time but will make all your future transfers much easier.  No fingerprints or CLEO signoff.

Just wait till the CLEO requirement is rescinded by the BATFE. It is coming,  needs to be published, then no more CLEO.

Even simple trusts when going to a lawyer will cost big bucks.

She's a flat out bitch!  Sorry, I think it's Chris's mom and I have done several transfers with Chis and the other guy there who used to handle the NFA.  But as long as Gail is in charge of that or anything else in that store, I ain't going back. There are other places that will do an NFA transfer and other stores to buy guns and not have to put up with her BS.  If she actually knew as much as she thought she knew, what a wonderful world it would be.

Yeah it's fine to be blunt, but she was flat out telling me wrong about NFA law.(in the I know more about this than you ever will tone) One thing obvious was saying I could not take the can across state lines which is flat out wrong. I just shook my head yeah sure whatever just to get the fuck out of there.

There was something else about my trust she was "arguing" with me about. I don't remember what it was but she said this will be back and you'll have to wait longer to get it fixed etc. I said mail it as is.  A few months later she was calling me to come get my can. It sailed through just like it has every time 7 others times.

The final straw, she checked the box to NOT give information to the transferee. In other words I could not check on my paper work progress. Chris or Jason had never done that before. Oh and that check meant nothing because I called to check on it and they told me what they always say. Pending and a date etc.

This has been 18+ months ago but I haven't been back and don't plan on it.

Its in process, but who in their right mind would sit back and wait for the government to do something, unless there is no other option

Sorry to hear you had bad experiences, I've known Chris and Gail since before OneShot began.  So I'll freely admit I am biased in their favor.

I am truly sorry you were treated  in such a manner.

That looks very promising!

OiRogers, you don't have to apologize for One Shot or Gail.  I did several transactions with Chris and Jason.  Never had a problem Both great people.  Bought a can and had several transferred in.  Also bought a pistol from them. As long as Gail is there, my business goes elsewhere. I find her to be that abrasive. She has no business interacting with the public.

Gas,

Maybe she just likes me.

I'm trying hard to patiently wait for their range... I had hoped to have rounds down range there by now.
