Should be getting my permit anytime now, and I'm still trying to learn all these NYS laws.  Couple of questions for you guys....

1)  If someone is selling a hangun from another state in the forums for example, can I purchase that hangun and have it transfered to a NYS FFL and go from there?
2) If someone is selling a hangun in NY (private sale), do I have to go through an FFL?
3) Anyone know some decent glock dealers in central NY or a source for used glocks (17)?
4) Can I open carry within the confines of my own property?

Thanks folks!!!!!

1. Yes you can have it transferred in through a FFL. If its new, it will need to have a fired casing for cobis.
2. Private sales can be done without a FFL but all of the licensing rules apply. Removing the pistol from one permit and then placing it on the other, using whatever means your county requires. It can not be done as easy as a long gun where you swap cash for gun.

good gun deals can be found at www.summitgunbroker.com on a bunch of used guns.

If you sign up for Glock Sport Shooting Foundation, or if you are a 1st responder (fire, ems, le, .mil) you can qualify to purchase new Glocks are discounted prices.

Ed's Public Safety in GA is hands down the easiest to work with stocking Glock dealer, that handles GSSF.

Good luck.

Check out Tim's Guns in elbridge. They had a decent selection when I was there last week. Plus its a local gun shop and not some random online dealer.

Wrong: Cobis applies to NEW from the manufacturer/distributor onlyEdited to add:  "New" means just that. If you're buying a NIB Glock from Jimmy Joe's Pistol Emporium in Smithville and they're shipping it to your FFL then it's no longer considered "new" if you're buying a pistol directly from the manufacturer or their wholesaler/distributor then a ballistic sample will be required

1)  If someone is selling a handgun from another state in the forums for example, can I purchase that handgun and have it transferred to a NYS FFL and go from there? All handguns coming from another State must go through a Dealer licensed to sell handguns and this is two parts: #1 Federal law Interstate commerce of a firearm and #2 NYS Handguns registration
2) If someone is selling a handgun in NY (private sale), do I have to go through an FFL? No, however each County may have a different requirement ie requiring a notarized bill of sale in addition to the previous owners info (where you're getting it)
3) Anyone know some decent glock dealers in central NY or a source for used glocks (17)? Around Watertown I can tell you of two Glock Dealers
4) Can I open carry within the confines of my own property? Open carry in NYS is prohibited, however there are a few exceptions you might get away with, but for the most part is someone can see you with a handgun and without a Badge, someone with those two is going to come and see you.

Thanks folks!!!!!

That was what my understanding was as well. Until I had to provide a casing from a "new" pistol that came from Jimmy Joe's pistol emporium. Some guys might be able to work it out that way but I was not fortunate enough. Just something to keep in mind.

Sorry Wally, I didn't mean to come off as harsh: More than once a dealer has errd on the side of caution because they really didn't know or understand the law(s) which ironically also seems to apply to many in charge of enforcement.

Thanks.

This is one of those areas where carrying a handgun in the open isn't likely to cause a stir. (HG hunting in the woods)

You can't carry a pistol and a bow at the same time while hunting or in the woods. Common sense is common with DEC Officers, others however......

I know you can't carry a firearm during bow only season (even if LE) but the FAQ kinda says two different things if hunting with a bow during firearm season.
