Anyone shot on the range or, hunted there before?
Great place if you ask me but, I never see many people on the range. I plan on going hog hunting there and, would like to know about experiences others have had hunting public land(safety, success, etc...). |

I was just over there last week. I prefer shooting out there because I like having the range to myself(who doesn't?) but it's a long drive to Richland from my place, so I don't make it over there nearly as much as I'd like. I've never hunted the WMAs before, but hunting at Chickasawhatchee WMA has been known as the last resort for a lot of local hunters here for as long as I can remember due to the dumbasses that hunt out there. It used to be common to have people take blind shots at you or stroll up to within a few yards of your spot and sit down with a rifle to smoke a few cigarettes and drink some beer. |

I've never hunted there but have used their range quite a bit. It's 45 minutes or so from Columbus and the only place within a couple hours that goes past 100 yards. I've always said that for a "free" public range, it's as nice as they come. The last few times I was there I had the pleasure of sharing the range with a couple of idiots. I guess that balances out the 10 good trips I had.
Overall, I like it but it's not the most convenient. |
