Thought I would say Hello to the WHF.

I have been lurking here in the WHF a bit and read most of the stickys/tacked threads.  Great info.

The family and I plan on putting down some roots here in the state, unfortunately it will be around the Berkley Madison area.

Would like to get some updated info on a couple of Q's I have.  Any answers/recommendations would be great.

Ranges in the area?  Do not mind driving some distance.

FFL for transfers?  FFL who can do NFA?

Who would be the CLEO in my area, the Madison Police Chief or Dane county Sheriff?  Just for C&R purposes.

Do WI residents get charged sales tax on Internet orders?  Just ordered a bunch of stuff from Bravo Co, and they tacked on WI sales tax.  Had ordered some other stuff online and never had to deal with sales tax.

Would be game to attend some of the shoots you all hold.  Thanks for any replies.

Can't speak for your local questions as I try to stay out of Dane county.

However, as far as tax, Bravo may have charged you because they're located in WI too.

Welcome, lots of fun in WI.

What part of Madtown you moving to? I live on the far east side, towards cottage grove. Nice part of town.

Tons of places to shoot at also. Head to the west side, kinda south west.. best time to shoot, midnight. And best shooting is from your car... wait. Ummm... I kid.

If you're looking for indoor shooting, I go to Deerfield range. Nice place, little pricey, but fun to shoot at. Outdoor, I head to our cabin, or sisters house.

If you're looking for a house, the wifey is a well connected realtor. She knows EVERYONE!

Let me know if I can help you out in anyway. A ton of good folks on here, always ready to help out. I know from experience!

Try to catch the farmers market on the capitol square before it's done for the season...just try to resist the urge to punch the hippies!!!!  Also don't forget about the Essen Haus for german beer and food and the Great Dane for more beer!

Bravo Company has to charge sales tax because it's a Wisconsin-to-Wisconsin sale.

Welcome to Wisconsin!

Thanks for the replies thus far.  Guess I should have noticed Bravo Co. was in WI.

Unique1, we are in the SW part of town, renting a house for now.  After the first of the year, we plan to start looking at houses and/or property to build.   I may take you up on the Realtor offer.  Will also check out the Deerfield range.  Thank you for the offers.

WIDeerHunter, thank you for the link, will have to see about attending something next year.  We have done the Farmers Market gig, lots of great fresh stuff and the people watching is pretty interesting.  Have been to the Great Dane many a time, good beer to be had for sure.  Will definitely try the Essen House, I do love good German food.

HKMP5A2, finishing up the paper work to go the trust route.  Looking to SBR one of my lowers for now, and start a collection of suppressors.  Do not have the $ for the FA stuff right now.  Appreciate the offer for shooting in the Racine area, who knows, maybe someday.

Feel free to add anything else, still looking for an FFL in the area to do a transfer or two.  Could also use the names and locations of any gun shops or dealers you all recommend.

Thanks again for the info.  Swen

As far as outdoor rifle ranges that are somewhat nearby, Stoughton (100yds, but is closer to you) and Columbus (200yds) would probably be your best bets. Deerfield is a good indoor pistol range.
Some of the guys on here know guys in the area that do free transfers, but I don't know their names offhand. For actual stores, the only place I can think of is the Ammo Box in Sun Prairie, but I'd suggest avoiding him at all costs, unless you like excessive cigarette smoke, odd stares, and overpriced pieces (his transfers are $50 each too). Someone want to chime in on the guys who do transfers?
BTW, welcome to the WI board Swen -I'm in Madison too, but generally avoid it and all of the things that go with it like the plague.

There's a new store in Cross Plains, PT firearms I beleive?  It just opened up.  I know the guys who run it and they're both good guys to work with.
