I just wanted to pop in and say hello and Happy Christmas to my British cousins. I had not seen this part of the board as was delighted to find it. I'm half-British and spent many a summer as a youth basking in the rain in London, Cornwall and the IOW (mostly). I used to know a few coppers over there but we lost touch a long time ago; I'm a 30 year police veteran here in Texas.
Anyway, I'm glad to see shooting is alive and well in GB! Cheers, Mac |

I see you're a copper. Tell me this, have you ever shot a dog?
No, but I've been bitten twice in the line of duty. Once by a small dog while in a man's living room (the little bastard took exception to my arresting his owner for burglary) –– I didn't shoot him, but he did take a short, unscheduled flight into the wall. The second was a loose stray –– afterward I had to stand on her neck until the animal control people showed up. No rabies, thank goodness. There won't be a third time... However, I did have to shoot a deer once on duty. I was trying to get a cup of coffee and a yuppie couple rushed into the convenience store in tears to inform me that a deer had been struck by a car and was injured. I walked out with them (coffee in hand) and saw a small doe in the ditch with her spine crushed. She was running around on her front legs in a circle, with her intestines sticking out her backside. The woman was begging me to help it, so I shot it in the head with my pistol (.45 auto). She and her husband fled in horror, but I never heard anything else about it.

FLINT. A small town about 20 miles from Chester. Only been to America once(Florida).Been to Canada twice with the Army. Never been that far North, but Wales is on our retirement list of places to explore. The wife and I thought we might rent a place in a caravan park for about 6 months as a base of operations and take a good look around your lovely countryside on day trips. |
