My name is D_Crisis and I'll be moving up to Ohio next weekend.
I've stalked y'all's section a little bit, just 'cause I have family up there I normally visit up there. But I just recently signed a contract for a new job up there and will be moving up. Looking forward talking to and possibly meeting some of y'all. You'll be able to recognize me by my use of the word Y'all. I'm a southern boy...and I get a lot of funny looks for it, but hey... So...hello everybody!

In that area you better get used to hearing "y'ins" instead of "ya'll" I grew up around that area but moved away a long time ago. Since you know some of the "secret slang" I used to shoot at Jefferson Sportsmans but that has been centuries ago. Cheap land and good hunting in the area. |
My wife grew up in Uhrichsville. She still has family and relatives that we visit in the Dover/New Philly/Newcomerstown area that we visit on occasion. I've been around the in-laws long enough to hear most of the slang terms from folks in the area....some of it still makes me go

Quoted: We could always tell the people from out of town when they wanted to know how to get to "cah-dizz".
I would think that anyone asking for directions to a town, regardless of pronunciation, would not be local to that area. ... just sayin... ![]() True. That was a bad example. I should have said anybody who pronounces the name like "cah-dizz" is a dead giveaway that they are not from the area. |

My parents moved to Marietta Ohio fifteen years ago from the Toledo area. When I go down there it's like a whole different state. I remember when my mother was asking a local where to find one of those trees that drops those green hedge apples to put out as a center fall display on her table. And he said you mean those "monkey ball trees"! Oh by the way welcome! |
