SO, I have finally decided to get a nice defensive light. I am looking at the surefire brand, mainly because my buddy carries them at his gun store and I have in-store credit there (not to mention the $15 off MSRP). My question is this: Do any of you have experience with the Surefire E2DL and G2 flashlights? The lights he has are these:

Surefire E2DL (120 Lumens) @ $135 ($90 out of pocket)
Surefire G2 LED (80 Lumens) @ $65 ($15 out of pocket)
Surefire 6P LED (80 Lumens I THINK) @$115 ($70 out of pocket)

The light will be an EDC light, so for that reason I really like the two outputs of the E2DL. What do you guys think? We are expecting our second child in two months, so I am trying not to spend so much money, but I want a GOOD light...

What you need is a driveshaft for a 1969 Mustang.

The G2 LED is a great light. I have 2. Also consider the L1 Lumamax, It's got a low light setting that runs for some ungodly amount of time, great for blackout situations. Having one of each is a great combo I think. I hear the Fenix lights are very good too, haven't tried one yet myself.

Would you say that it is worth the extra $70 out of pocket to have the extra light setting that the E2DL offers? I get up at 0330 every morning and use the light to navigate the dark bedroom while my wife sleeps. Although a 200 lumen light would have great comical value in this situation, I am kind of looking for something that has a lower light setting for this task, although it is not NECESSARY. This is one reason that the E2DL was looking good.

I have the 6P and G2.  surprisingly the G2 has held up better to abuse.  You can make them both a lot brighter by swapping out the lamp.  As for pissing in the middle of the night, I'd recommend a Single LED night light.  They sell them at Wally World for like $2...plus, if you use one of those, you won't burn through $12 worth of batteries in a month.

I carry a G2 LED and a standard E2D everywhere, and have a standard 6P mounted on my AR.  They're great lights.

If you're only gonna get one, get the G2 LED hands down.  Great light for the money.  I use mine every single day.

And here's a secret:  these batteries work great!  and here's the charger for them

I've been using 4 of these batteries now for about 3 years, I think.  Never had a problem with them.  They pay for themselves damn quick, as opposed to buying Surefire batteries all the time.

current draw....  the surefire and some other cr123 batteries are 1500+mah, the rechargables are 900 mah or less. it is possible to burn up the light element due to "lack of available current"
there is a noticable difference in run time and light output between the batteries. another option is to buy your batteries in bulk it will save you alot $$
tenergy makes standard cr123's that are over 1400mah and buying 50 at a time they are only $1.00 each...
also not that surefire, panasonic, rayovac, and energizer cr's are all the same under the wrapper

I think it has something to do with the rechargable CR123s' putting out more then 3volts when fully charged. More power leads to shorter bulb life in normal lights. But I think most of the LED lights out there a regulated so it shouldn't matter. Best place to look would be a flashlight related forum.
